Great course, beautiful setting

I played this course for the second time. I really liked it the first time and really enjoyed it the second time.

The course is well laid out and the only reason I had to mark the condition not too good was because it had dumped rain the previous two days and everything was soggy. Definitely not anybody’s fault.

Everyone that works there that I had contact with was really friendly

Had a great time

Previous reviews for the pine cone greens and the end of thistle were valid. The greens showed signs of stress, along with weeds in the bunkers. The staff does seem to be working hard on improvements.

Cold morning, nice course and people

The resort at the mountain has 3 nine hole courses. So, when you play 8 they assign you two of them. The layout is fun and has ample variety. The only downside is the cost seemed a bit high ... $75 for the round (with a cart), but it is on Mt. Hood and the views are spectacular.

Unimpressed, 7/26/2024

The fairways and rough were in good shape and the rough did not penalize you. The bunkers were dismal, lots of weeds and grass growing in them. Some were packed hards as rock and others were fluffy, but all had weeds and grass in them. The greens still showed the results of being punched and not being properly top dressed and there was no consistency between greens. Some ran slow, others fast and all were bumpy and not very well cared for.

I have played better public courses in Portland and will not be coming back at these prices.

A good challenge that is in great shape.

I was first out, so pace wasn't an issue. The weather was perfect and the course was in amazing shape. A good challenge and the views are incredible.

Course Needs Rehab

Pros: Staff was very courteous, the Sandy River ran along the first few holes of Foxglove which was nice, golf carts had GPS and were better than Pumkin Ridge, Langdon Farms, and The Reserve.

Cons: Clubhouse was very dated, course in bad shape with some diseased/dead greens, more weeds than sand in more than a few bunkers, with fairways that are very bumpy.

Could be a much nicer course but would take big money to whip it back into shape. Location/setting is very scenic, hope they are able to make the investment needed to return the course to its former glory

Not kept up

They need to put some work in on this course if they are going to en charging premium prices. Bunkers have grass in them, tee boxes are in horrible shape. And fairways and greens are brown and not maintained. Very poor condition

Needs Help

The course conditions were the worst I've seen in the 40+ years I have been playing there. The sand traps were full of weeds, the greens still had plug marks and brown spots and the t-boxes were beat up.

Problems

Thistle and Pinecone: Starter was quite accommodating; let us out early with a single. The course was a disappointment compared to previous outings. The traps were atrocious; over grown with weeds and old caked sand (where there was sand) . Some of the tee boxes were nearly grass free. The greens were bumpy but quite playable. We disregarded our standard axion,”never play on the weekends”.. Play was slow (4hrs 40 min., with a cart). We saw a course marshal from time to time, but it was never clear if he did anything. It’s a shame that the courses have been neglected; it’s such a beautiful sight. I’m afraid we’re done playing here, as least for the time being.

Good Course Except for Greens and Rutted Fairways

I played all 27 holes on a recent morning, and was impressed with the layout, natural scenery, and even saw a handful of deer on the course (had to shoo one off a green to putt). However, the greens were in fair shape at best, and some were downright terrible (e.g. Foxglove #9). Sand traps were more like rock traps w/hardly any loose sand. The fairways LOOK reasonable and play okay, but they are heavily rutted, so expect the need for a chiropractor if using a golf cart - they were THAT bumpy. You can get a good price on Golf Now, but otherwise expect paying about $100 for 18 with a cart on a weekend. I'm from the Portland metro, so I'll play it once a year, but probably no more than that.

Fantastic course with a good layout.

I have only played 2 of the 3 par 3'sbit Thistle and Pinecone are wonderful. There seemed to be quite a few folks playing, but the pace was great. I would play here more if it wasn't such a drive, but it's totally worth it..

We used to play this course all the time, and we were appalled at the condition of the course.

Tee boxes, fairways, and even some of the greens were burnt and it horrible condition.

Bunkers were over grown with grass and weeds.

Course maintenance crew should all be replaced!

We play all over the Northwest, and this by far was the worst maintained course we’ve played.

Don’t waste your money!!

Needs work

Tee boxes were terrible. Some greens were in good shape. Some were the worst I’ve seen. The sand traps are unplayable, concrete hard with weeds and grass.
