If you like speedy greens!?!
Fairways were mowed to within an inch of their life, and in generally fair shape. The green's speed were insanely fast. Towering shots into the greens, with short irons, would not hold, they rolled off. Too be fair, I was told that they had a tournament the day before and the greens were brought up to a 12 on the stimp just for that purpose. It continues to be one of the most beautiful courses in the area, and certainly one worth playing.
A Good Drive Spoiled
I have been fortunate the past several months to play some different courses out of my area. I thought Lykens would be a nice change and the reviews were promising. So much for that idea!
In fairness, this course is a bit remote and I think if I only lived a couple miles away I would probably play it but...... since I drove two hours I can't suggest anyone do that.
I will say the greens are very nice. The fairways are very hard and have many dead and or bare spots. They were friendly and sent me out ahead of my tee time which was great but..... after chewing up the better part of an hour by the fourth tee, I was totally ready to bail. I stuck it out and came it about 2:15 for the first nine ( I would say that time par for this layout would be maybe 3:15 for 18). Sadly when I arrived at the 10th tee ( a long par three from the back tees) there were suddenly three groups
waiting to tee off. I made a quick decision to drive ahead to see if I could just skip a couple of holes but no luck totally backed up so I jumped back over to a parallel fairway on the front nine and played about five more holes before I again got behind the US Open foursome who had no intention of letting a single player through although totally open ahead of them.
Here's the deal: They DO NOT monitor play here and because of that, players ahead don't really give a rip what's going on behind them. That's the course's fault. Would like to be more positive because the layout itself is scenic and could be fun but my "Good Drive Was Spolied' this day.
Welcoming
The course and especially the greens were in great condition. The thing that always impresses me most is the staff. I always feel that they truly appreciate my business.
All Around Good Time
This course is in excellent condition and the greens are in great shape. You have to stay on the fair ways because the ruff is relentless. This was the second time I played this course and it was well worth the 75 minute drive. I hope to be back at least one more time this year. The only flaw was the lack of sinage to the next hole.
Best kept secret in central Pa
Golfing experience is the best from start to finish. The tees. Fairways, greens could not be better. I live with numerous golf courses around me but will travel the distance to play at Lykens Valley. Staff are very friendly, just can't say enough about Lykens Valley!
Good bang for your buck
Course is in better shape than its been in years. Kudos to the grounds crew! Newly redone tee boxes and the greens were gorgeous
Great place to play
Played on a Thursday mid morning. The course was in incredible condition. Was not very busy so no hold ups or pushing from behind. Threesome in front of me had their cart die on them and had a new cart within 5 minutes!! Greens were in perfect conditions and fairways were great. A great course for the price, will definitely be back.
Amazing!!
This course is truly a gem. It provides some great golf for a great value. Staff is great, and Shawn has done a great job improving everything.
Hard Fairways
The fairways on this course were very hard with brown spots in several locations. Poor shots were sometimes rewarded because of the exta distance you might get while shots hit pure might get you in trouble. The greens and tee boxes were excellent. The course provides some very pretty scenery. Some of the layout is very unique.
Nice Drive to Lykens
Great time, Pace of play was perfect for my wife and I.
Lykens Valley
Very enjoyable round. Undulating greens a real challenge as well several tight fairways on back 9. Very friendly staff who had everything ready upon our arrival.
Great course and lodging
I play at Lykens Valley twice a year. Course is always in good condition. Greens have good speed and subtle breaks. Rolling hills and elevation changes provide a test of golfing skills as well as provide scenic views of the valley.
Beautiful course
This course was well maintained and had nice mountain views. Lots of open space make it easy to find your ball if you have an occasional bad shot of the tee. This course offers few challenging holes as well including a tight drive through the woods, a tee off over a pond and a few tee shots over a stream.
Nice place
Fun golf course with some uniqueness. Nice greens, flat tree boxes, friendly and attractive staff. I'll be back.
Best course in the valley
I go to this course at least 5 times a year. It is always and enjoyable course. Fairways are the best I've ever seen them this year. Greens are impeccable, tee boxes are also. The front 9 holes are much more forgiving on the fairways and greens, perfect for getting your game warmed up and dialed in. Back 9 is a bit more challenging to hit a few of the fairways, and greens are sure to get your ball moving. Very challenging course for its overall yardage.
Can't wait to play another round
The course and it's staff was impeccable. The greens are very challenging and well maintained , I can't wait to play another round and enjoy future fun at this course
very green
The course was quite green. I didn't see any areas that were very brown.. A little is to be expected here and there but overall the course was very well kept. I played alone and even though there was a little slow down due to multiple two soles, I was done in 3 he's.
Great Day
Course was beautifl!! Great condition! Great Value! You can't go wrong here!
course is player friendly
Likens is a good course to play the 2 times I played it it was not that crowed so play moved right along I play in the low 100's and there were holes I found fairly easy to play but I also found some challenging holes like numbers 8 and 15 the course was in good condition and I am sure I will play it again in the near future I wish it were geographic closer to where I live
A hidden gem
This is a great course that is suitable for all skill levels. The layout is very nice, the front side takes on an old style country club feel and the back side is more of a new style mountain course. The overall course condition was great, the fairways and greens were very well taken care of and the rough was in good shape as well. The staff was very courteous and friendly as well as knowledgeable. The bar/restaurant area was also very impressive. Overall I was extremely impressed and I would highly recommend this course to anyone of any skill level.
