Very Nice, Challenging Couse
The course was in great condition. Not an overly long course, but one that requires accuracy and good touch on and around the greens. Very nice clubhouse too. Great play, especially for some of the deals this time of the year. Would definitely recommend playing here if you are in the area.
Great Experience
The course was in very good condiction. Greens a little slow. We enjoyed the layout of the different holes, especially the changes in the elevations which we were not use to. The 1st and 13th holes are hard if you haven't played the course before. Hidden shots and surprises you don't expect. Looking forward to playing this course again.
Good bang for your buck!
Really great course for the money. Be very accurate with your approach shots. If you miss the flag by 12 feet or so it would be very hard to par the hole.
Needs a driving range to warm up before you tee off. They should have one then I will vote for a 5 star. It plays harder than the slope rating of 140.
First time good impression - course knowledge is a must
Played Mount Airy for the first time. Chilly, windy day, but an enjoyable round. Course conditions were very good with the lone exception being the condition of the sand traps. It is not so much as to the type of sand being used - that was consistent throughout the course, but rather that the traps do not seem to be raked by the course management staff (easily loosened up by raking), nor by players who were previously in the traps - a lot of footprints, gouges etc.
Course knowledge is a must. Thankfully one of our group played there previously this year and could give us some guidance. Shot-making is a must, and ball placement on a number of holes far outweighs just busting it as far as possible. Several par 5's (including #1) are best played planning a lay-up because the shot is either blind or demands an exact placement and carry.
Will definitely be back as the value is very good, course conditions overall are very good, and the course represents challenges to making good shots regularly.
One last comment - our round finished at 5:15 but we were disappointed to find the pro shop and bar already closed....no 19th hole.
Awful way of running things
3.5 hours for the front 9, just way to slow pace of play. Course rangers do not know how to speed people up. Gave up and got refund after 9 will never return
Disappointing
Stayed at Mt. Airy casino 9/14-9/16. Played on 9/16. Goofy mountain golf course with some ridiculous tee shots. Target golf but even good shots can find some horrible places. Many blind shots. Play with someone who knows the course or bring ur Skycaddy.
Course was in ragged condition. Fairways ragged. Greens lush but way too slow. Bunkers filled with soft sand and looked like they hadn't been raked in days.
Glad I only paid $30. Would've really been angry if I paid regular prices. Skip this one and head to Jack Frost National if you want an extremely enjoyable mountain golf experience.
Quality Golf Course
Nice golf course in above average shape, but the day we played it took 3 hours to play the front nine so when we made the turn we saw no one was on the first tee and we decided to play the front again. Disappointed because we like the back better than the front, a little more challenging. I recommend playing Mt. Airy at least once in your lifetime, it just happened to be busy and SLOW the day we played.
Talk about slow play
The round was not at all enjoyable due to the extremely slow play and players in the woods constantly looking for balls. On average there was two to three groups on a hole.
Beautiful setup and bit challenging
Never be bored for this course because each hole has unique setup so makes you think.
Ball not always go as you plan but always enjoying regardless of score
Overall, a great experience
First time playing Mt Airy this past weekend and i was very happy with the experience. The course was in great shape except for the sand traps which were a mess, but i think it was due to the recent heavy rain. Pace of play was a little slow but expected on a Sunday. Food at the restaurant was really good and staff was friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this course and cannot wait to go back and play it again
Great Course
Blind uphill shot on #1
Take a look at it at top of hill on right about 1/4 mile before entrance to casino.
Great course!
Best bet playing Mt Airy golf
Course is in beautiful condition, if you haven't played here before buy a yardage book and hit to spots as there are some blind shots out there. Very fun layout
Great Course
We had a great experience at this very nice golf course. Course was in great shape, play moved quickly and you cannot beat the special rate of $21 with fees offered by GOLFNOW. Course is challenging but playable for all levels of players except beginners. Would highly recommend. Be careful of the pond on number one at the top of the hill!
First time here
Course was in excellent condition. Staff was very accomadating. Only problem was slow play but in all fairness it was extremely hot that day which may have been a factor. Highly recommend
Must play course
Great value, staff and course. Pace was a little slow, though not surprising for Sunday afternoon. Was impress that range warden was out ensuring foursomes were moving along.
soso
no good for beginner & too far at our citi
Great course - eat before you get there...
let me start off by saying - this course is great. Beautiful layout, tough greens, more than reasonable rates (Golfnow rate of $45 with cart on a Friday? Unreal) Would absolutely go back there - I just wouldn't eat there ever again. Overpriced, terrible lunches - Rolls were stale and cold, my "Italian Sandwich" was about as Italian as a Guinness...that being said, the wait staff was good, there was just no enjoying the pre-round lunch. One suggestion about the course - upgrade the bunkers- very little sand in any of them.
very solid course, could be better
This is a solid course and well worth the $30 twilight rate I paid. I was glad to play with someone who knew the course. He definitely provided some important insights. Even so, this course is a "quirky" tough layout. There were some really memorable/"unique" holes. #13 is certainly one of them. I liked the back 9 a lot more since it's more open and more straight forward.
The course is by no means perfect. The sandtraps could use some TLC and the greens were a little on the slow side. #7 and #13 are two of the worst par 5's I've ever played. No par 5 should ever be a layup off the teen. #7 I hit 3 straight 4 hybrids to reach the green in regulation. #13 is visually impressive but between the 220 yard layup off the tee and ever present sewage treatment plant it leaves a lot to be desired.
If you're in the area it's worth your time to play. Just don't expect some high-end casino/resort course. This is certainly not a Turning Stone level facility. In fact, I can't help but think at some point Mt Airy is going to completely renovate the course. There's about 4-5 holes that should be blown-up and completely redone. #3, #7, #8, #13 and #16 should be the first to go....
Fun course with tons of wildlife
Course was in excellent condition. Elevation changes and tight tee shots on some holes make this a challenging course. Was lucky enough to be paired with an experienced golfer of the course to get some insider knowledge on many holes. Enjoyed it so much I went back the next day!
Spring Training Golf Trip
Mt Airy was a fabulous course and without a doubt the best price on our Spring Training Golf Trip down the east coast and back home via the Appalachians
Very friendly people who went out of their way to make you comfortable.
Course was in excellent shape and a lot of fun to play.
