About Pocono Manor Resort & Spa

Life changed at Pocono Manor on Nov. 1, 2019, when a fire ripped through the historic inn, causing significant damage that's led to an ongoing closure. Although there are plans to renovate and rebuild, only the golf course is currently open. Currently, golfers looking to stay and play the historic course can book accommodations at nearby partner properties through the resort website. There is food available in the clubhouse.

Could be better

Interesting course layout, two blind greens on par 3's. Condition of course was below average, but could be related to time of year. Looking forward to play next season, my expect ions is that course will be in better condition.

A day to remember at Pocono manor East course

It was hard to think it was November. The only indications were the bare trees and leaves on the ground. We tee'd off at 9:12 am, and it was just perfect. Hole #7 was closed but alternate hole 2 gave me a chance to keep the scorecard low. We played from the seniors tees and my buddy Bill who is 72 needed the Blue flag, so his neck issues would not cut the round short. I've played this course since 1977 and I have to say, it is coming back strong. Make note of Greg Wall's golf tips, or you could get clobbered.

5 Hour round!!!

I played Pocono Manor on Saturday August 29, 2015 as part of a group of 9 (3 groups of 3) and a tee time of approximately 10:30 am. Our group was made up of a mix of players that are probably anywhere from a 7-30 handicap so we are by no means professionals but our round took 5 hours which definitely took away from our experience and is unacceptable (more on the pace of play below).

Course: There are some interesting holes and elevation changes on this course that could make it fun to play like the blind par 3 (3rd hole), driveable par 4s (hole 5 and 16), and the ridiculously short par 3 (7th hole). The overall course conditions were okay, there were some signs of damage on a few of the tee boxes but nothing that I would complain about. The fairways and greens were in respectable shape but they should put some divot mix on the carts so that they players can help with the maintenance.

Pace of Play/staff: This is where my criticism of this course starts. Starting on hole 3, we got significantly backed up. So backed up that we had all 9 of us sitting on the same tee box at times (hole 5 and 6). The ranger drove by and just kept driving. On either hole 11 or 12 this happened again. The ranger proceeded to tell us that if it happened again, he would take our cart keys (all while the 4 some in front of us was sitting 100 yards down the fairway looking for their balls in the woods (again)). When we asked him about the hold up in front of us, he told us that he couldn't do anything about it but that 9 of us couldn't sit on the same tee box because it looked bad(I guess our last group should have just sat on the last green). What is the point of having a ranger, if you are not going to tell people to speed it up when they fall behind? I don't mind waiting from time to time but I think we waited on the one tee box for at least 10 minutes. For what it is worth, we never saw a group behind us until around hole 14.

Value: You do get your money's worth at this course since it is the cheapest course (at least that we found) in the Pocono area on a Saturday morning. That should tell you something right there.

Apparently this course doesn't realize that a 5 hour round of golf drives away customers. I would consider playing this course again but it won't be for a while. I will check out the other area courses first.

A really nice course , surrounded by nature and fantastic views of the pocono mountains. Can't wait to come back and play in the fall to see the views as the leaves change color. Fairways are in good shape.

A Good Walk Not Spoiled

I gave Pocono Manor a try despite knowing the reviews were inconsistent. That being said, I had an enjoyable round on a perfect day for golf. The greens were very good and smooth although there were a few with some blemishes. The fairways were good although they were a bit dry and tight lies are possible.

They did seem to have 'manufactured' a couple of par three holes when they combined the East and West courses. They are both very odd to say the least. These courses have a lot of history and were designed by Ross and Flynn so you can see their work on many of the better holes.

I thought that the staff was very accommodating as I just showed up early in the am to play. I drove about 90minutes to this course and am not disappointed ... Ive driven as far for way less of an experience. Definitely a good value for the price ($30) including cart.

P.S. - the course is designed with generous fairways BUT ... if you spray the ball you will be hitting out of the trees or from some challenging uneven lies! There really aren't true forward (Sr Tees) so if you are a longer hitter you will be able to see the green surface your shooting at ... if not you will be guessing where to land it!

Good Old Time Course

This is a course set in the Pocono Mountains, that is "OLD TIME". Very Tiny greens that were in very good shape for the location. Fairways were in good shape, fast and firm. Not overly long, and one par 3 that is a bit quirky. Down hill and VERY SHORT. Please to play it after many years having not been there. Great views.

Great old course where the legends of golf played

Best bang for the buck in the Pocono Mountains.
Have not played this course for several years and after reading reviews about the conditions I wasn't sure I wanted to play there. But I must say the reviews were wrong and the conditions were better then expected. The only complaint came from my wife on regards to the ladies tee boxes.

Good for the price

Overall good course. Tee areas are filled with divots though and cart paths are little rough, but you do get your money's worth.

Ups & Downs

Interesting design. Fairways have major league elevation changes making for challenging shots. Greens were generally good, with minor, scattered turf damage. Tee boxes for seniors and forward positions are an afterthought. Looks like they picked out a spot up ahead and just mowed it. A simple wheelbarrow or two of dirt to level things out would go a long way. Cart paths are coming apart at the seams. Went in to get my $1 draft after the round (as per scorecard offer) and was told they don't staff the bar on Tue, Wed or Thu....bummer. Price was good.

Worth the money

The course is not in the best condition, some of the greens need repair. There were two holes where putting was made difficult because of dead grass.

The course is fair, the tall grass around the greens could kill your score. I lost 3 balls at the greens because I could not find them in the tall grass.

Fun course to play

We always enjoy playing @ Pocono Manor; it's not a long course and not overly challenging. Some interesting if not unique holes - especially a couple of the par 3's. Only complaint I have is that a few of the greens are in rough shape; a few on the back nine had heavy doses of sand in areas making it virtually impossible to put from certain lies. This is not always the case, however. We play here 2-3x/month during the season.
