Walker Course
WE arrived an hour and a half early hit balls and the starter was able to slide us in, no problems. Great staff, course was in great shape, greens running fast, couple of slow greens, but all in great shape. Look forward to spring/summer to be able to play course again
Pleasant surprise
I decided to drive three hours to play this course based upon its favorable ranking in a list of top college courses, and I must say it did not disappoint. I encountered something at this course that I haven't anywhere else: zoysia greens. And you would never have known the difference. Not quick and definitely not grainy, just true and highly consistent. The holes around Lake Hartwell are the star of this course. The par 3 17th gets most of the play due to the tiger paw green/bunker combo, but the toothy par-4 9th is the best hole on the course. Pick your poison off the tee. You can try to carry the creek and land in the second fairway, but miss short or left and you're laying three. Lay up off tee to avoid the trouble and you are facing a 200+-yard approach partially over a hazard. Would've been a fantastic 18th home. Excellent practice facility, but beware: if you are planning on playing on a Saturday during football season and the Tigers are at home, the driving range will be closed because they park cars on it for games. It is literally that close to campus and the stadium. Tip: after your round, visit the Esso Club for drinks and good. It is on campus wishing 2 miles of the course.
Read the fine print
Enjoyed the golf but not the price. GolfNow listed the fee at $35.xx. That is a reasonable amount for this course. However, this does not include a cart which is another $18. So with taxes and fees it was $60 per person. The course is not worth that amount. GolfNow should stop with the gimmicks and just list the 18 hole rate with a cart and I should read the fine print better.
Wow
Great course number 9 is a bear but par can be had. Last three are beautiful.
Very Impressed
Read a review that this course was the best in the Up State of SC. And boy was he right. I haven't played many courses in the Up State however I cant see any other public course being better. Course conditions, layout, were superb . Drove from Charlotte just to play it and I plan on doing it again soon.
Clemson Walker Course
Excellent condition. Challenging course with small greens that have a lot of slope. Hard to chip close to the hole if you miss. Lots of elevation changes tee to green. Fun round.
This course is awesome!
I've played here plenty of times before late Clemson games and this course never disappoints. Conditions and course layout is just awesome. Highly recommend!
Perfect condition
I have played the Walker Course many times over the years. The new zoysia greens are as smooth as any as I have ever played. The course layout has a good combination of risk/reward Par 5s and challenging, lengthy Par 3s if played from the back tees. The finishing 4-5 holes provide beautiful scenery of Lake Hartwell and some birdie opportunities as well. One of the best public venues to play anywhere for golfers of all skill levels hands down.
Best course in the upstate
Course is in great condition, even the rough is meticulously maintained. Quality is on par with private Cliffs courses.
great layout
Great condition, generous size greens and great layout makes it is a joy to play
Walker Course
This is one of my favorite courses anywhere in SC. It's always in great shape. The layout is tough but fair. I like the hybrid options that are available on the card. Beautiful place to play a round of golf.
Awesome Father's Day!
The Walker's Course provided environment on Father's Day! The staff was friendly and the course was in wonderful conditions.
I will definitely play again!
Clemson Walker
The course was in good shape with very good greens. The starters were very friendly and actually got us off earlier than our tee time. We played as a twosome were in no hurry and enjoyed taking extra putts on the greens since the group behind never pushed us.
In great shape
The course was in the best shape of all the courses in the upstate we played greens were a little slower, but rolled true.
Love The Course, But They Need A Ranger
I've always enjoyed playing The Walker Course (despite it being Clemson University's course). The only issue with my experience was a group who slowed play so much, there were 4 groups on one hole, the slow-pokes on the green, the next group in the fairway who were the most angry, then us on the tee box (who were moderately angry) and the group behind is waiting to tee off. It seems like some people don't have the courtesy to not hit several balls on the hole b/c they didn't like their initial shot. There are some who don't know to let a faster group play through. Surprisingly those type of people were creating the logjam on Wednesday. A ranger is needed to hurry those inconsiderate folks along so everybody can enjoy their experience...because everybody behind that particular group paid for their greens fees, too. That kind of stuff is just uncalled for and unfortunate.
One of the best in the Upstate
Very scenic course, many differing holes with great shot values.
Soggy
The course itself is in great shape and although it had not rained in a while, the course was still a good bit soggy retaining water in many fairways. The greens are rolling true and are in great shape. Not much green in the fairways yet but I'm excited over the possibility when grass grows this spring.
Love Walker Course
This course is awesome. Back nine is incredible, right on Lake Hartwell. Sometimes you can heard the Clemson band in the background. Favorite course in the area. Greens should be awesome very very soon. This is the place to bring your family and friends when they are in town. Hole #9 is SUPER challenging.
Excellent Golf Course
We play this course as often as possible because it is such a great track. They redid the greens during the summer and they are fantastic. This is such a nice course with a number of challenging holes, especially from the Purple tees. The 9th hole is likely the hardest hole you will ever play and walking away with a bogey can be defined as a win. If you are ever in the Clemson, SC area, you have to play this course!
Great experience!
Played 11/11. Great day for golf. Yes the ground was saturated with all the recent rain but the greens are as smooth as I have putted. Average speed. I can't wait to play it in the summer when its dry out. Very nice layout. Staff was great and the people I was paired up with where 2 of the nicest.
Wow! Agree with you on that extra cart fee. However the course is definitely worth $60.But I never paid that.
