Great Sunday morning
Grande Dunes did not disappoint. Everyone was friendly, and I felt as they wanted me there. The fairways are pretty forgiving off the tee. Trouble starts on the approach shots. The bunkers were in great shape. At times it was hard to concentrate, beautiful views everywhere. As a 15 handicap, my only advice would be to play the appropriate tees, the course plays long and the wind blows pretty hard. Great round!
Good course but not what I've heard
Nothing bad about course. Staff super friendly. Greens were just ok. Course played a lot easier than I expected. Just for the money I was expecting more.
Worth the money
Beautiful course that is challenging on every hole. From distance, shot decisions, pin placements with no flat surfaces in sight on a green, the average golfer will be in for a surprise. For some pleasant, others not so much. The course rewards well placed shots with great opportunities into the green at and at the hole to score, but the opposite can be the said as well. Had aerated 2 weeks prior but had already return to a playable condition. Will be back to play the course in ripe conditions and maybe not when the rain traps us for an hour under cover 11 holes in.
Challenging But Fair
This was my first time playing Grande Dunes. I found the course to have a challenging yet accommodating design for all skill levels. Fairways are wider than I expected, bunkers are designed to be provide difficulty without ruining a round, and hole layouts that provide variety between holes. This is a well designed golf course that I look forward to visit again. With this said, the greens are still recovering from recent aeration. They are still rather slow and sandy; however, the maintenance staff seems to be doing an excellent job recovering them. This isn’t a dealbreaker for me, but it’s disappointing this wasn’t communicated until I checked in for my tee time.
This course plays long and has an awesome track and there is a test every hole
Must Play
I have played about 12 courses in Myrtle, and this right at the top of the list. Greens were great, fun layout. Not crazy long from the middle tees, exactly what we needed.
Very Nice, enjoyed it
Course was in great shape, we played on a Monday, so there was a little maintenance action going on, but did not hinder our good time. Pace of play did get a bit slow during the round, and ranger didn't seem to care. We did play in just over 4.5 Hours so not the worst I have seen. Saw the beverage cart just one time, and you don't go back by the clubhouse when you make the turn, so got a little thirsty out there. Course it self is very nice, and I would play it again. Greens were in great shape, and ran pretty fast, loved it.
Avoid. Extremely slow pace of play
Pace of play extremely slow even after reporting to staff who did nothing to help nor express concern. Five excruciating hours waiting on EVERY shot for 18 holes. Will not return!
Wrong deacription
Greens are rock hard, brown, and bermuda. Not bent as in the description.
Rock Hard Brown Greens
Highly over rated. Nice layout. Greens are a disaster. Rock hard. Impossible to hold a shot. Brown. Dry. Extremely Fast. Not worth the green fee. Many better courses in MB for much less money. First time playing and will be the last. Something must be wrong that they have left their greens get so bad.
The Grand Strands Only Private Country Club
Recently, Heritage Golf Group made its presence known in Myrtle Beach and the Carolinas. In early 2022, they purchased Brunswick Plantation Resort and Cape Fear National Golf Club, just across the state line in Leland, NC. Then in October 2022, they made a grand entrance into Myrtle Beach with the purchase of the Grande Dunes Members Club, the only private golf club in Myrtle Beach. The group also purchased The Club at Savannah Quarters, in Pooler, GA. According to Heritage CEO Mark Burnett, “These acquisitions are in line with our strategy of owning and operating private clubs in residential communities in key locations and providing members with a vibrant club lifestyle.”
Grande Dunes Members Club is located within the upscale Grande Dunes residential community, it offers its members a world-class golf experience along with fine dining and social activities. The golf course was designed by golf course architect Craig Schreiner with a lot of input from PGA TOUR player and Hall of Fame inductee Nick Price.
The Members Club plays 7,029 yards from the Championship Tees (Red) with a course rating of 73.8 and a slope of 136, with a par of 71. Ladies typically play the Gold Tees (5,127/70.1/122). I found the White Tees (6,048/69.5/126) provided an adequate challenge and still allowed me to leave with a little dignity.
The Members Club is set in an excellent location, high on a bluff overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway, with panoramic views that include the surrounding maritime forest. It features modest elevation changes, wide TifSport Bermuda fairways, and 34 acres of lakes.
The greens are very large and play fast; they’re also full of subtle breaks and false fronts. What may go unnoticed is the length of the greens, many more than 35 yards. With a two to three-club distance between a front and back pin placement, this allows the staff to set up the course in an unlimited number of ways, and never let members get the feeling they are playing the same course over and over. After all, variety is the spice of life!
In addition to a spectacular golf course, Grande Dunes Members Club also has some fantastic practice facilities including a full-length driving range, short game area, and practice putting green. The pro shop is filled with logoed golf apparel and accessories from some of the top names including Peter Millar, Ralph Lauren, and Stich Golf. They also have a wide selection of balls, clubs, shoes, and lifestyle pieces.
As I mentioned earlier, Grande Dunes Members Club is the only private club in Myrtle Beach. It has been said many times that "membership has its privileges," and membership with Heritage Golf Group certainly epitomizes this. As a Heritage Golf Group member, you'll enjoy all of the benefits you'd expect at your home club, plus have the option to upgrade your membership for access throughout the Heritage portfolio of clubs. Since golf is always an important part of country club life, your HGG membership gives you access to 28 (and growing) championship Heritage Golf Group clubs. You'll play on uncrowded fairways under pristine conditions on world-class courses. In addition to great golf, you’ll have access to all of the practice facilities and teaching professionals when traveling. And let's not forget the food! Dine in chef-inspired restaurants and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of their clubhouses and lounges. There are membership options for individuals, families, and corporations.
Good option but bring lots of balls
Grande Dunes was a nice track with a cool layout. I played the day after a couple inches of rain so course was very wet. Green speeds were down but were in great shape along with the fairways.
This course has lots of water and lots of White stake OB so make sure you bring some balls. Great gps to help you along way. I was a big fan of holes 4-7. And then a big fan of 15-18 beautiful scenery. Thought you would see a little bit more of the intercoastal waterway but oh well. Good option to play but thought the price was a bit high. Overall good experience.
PS the Starter was Outstanding. One of the best ive seen.
Significantly improved after 2020 renovation
Grande Dunes Members Club was a perfect poster-child for pre-Recession golf development. Built to take advantage of the height of the market, it was billed as a Naples-style exclusive private club - complete with imposing Mediterranean-style residences - in the middle of Myrtle Beach. The hole corridors have always been generous, but the original course was bunkered to an extreme degree, and the bentgrass greens were typically soft, which took much of the interest out of a set of actually quite interesting green contours.
A summer-long renovation project in 2020 solved both of those issues. Several enormous bunkers were removed or reduced in size, often taking out sand where it would only punish the high-handicap player. Greens were converted to TifEagle as the club realizes that firming up the golf course will make it a lot more fun for members, as well as guests, who now have access to the course. If you are staying in the central part of Myrtle Beach, the Members Club is a nice option.
NOTE: Special kudos to the club for painting its fairways, rather than overseeding them, for the winter. The practice enhances playability while still providing some visual contrast.
As good as there is
Only one or two other Myrtle Beach courses is as perfect as this exclusive course. The conditions were pristine, the staff was great, the experience could not have been better. The course is as plush as you can get. The new greens are phenomenal and ,the fairways play almost like greens. There are not many places I have seen like the Members Club. Awesome experience.
Really nice course, scenic, challenging and gps in the carts.
One of the best parts of the course are views of the intercoastal waterway, along with generous fairways and good conditions. Loved the GPS in the carts which sped up play.
Greens are NOT bent grass as it says on several sites but have been changed over to championship Bermuda. As expected these have a very hard surface. Great for many rounds of golf, not so great for shot making.
First time I've played the course, am a 8 handicap and enjoyed it. Greens rolled good and medium fast. Plenty of bunkers guarding the greens but placed fairly to not overly challenge the average golfer. Conditions seemed good from tee to green.
Staff was okay but we only interacted with the person taking payment. Most staff were careful amid the pandemic. However, the bag guys still want to take your bag and walk 5 feet to put on the cart without wearing masks, gloves and/or changing gloves or wiping hands between bags, no indication if they are tested each day, no distancing, etc. I know SC has different requirements than other states, but they should give the option to put our own bags on the cart and maintain distance. Another course wiped down our whole cart including the bag strap for us.
As expected beer was almost 5 bucks a can. That's a bit ridiculous. Cut the price in half and see sales go up triple vs watching many "sneak" beer onto the course.
I would play here again however, and had a really nice time with friends.
Huge Disappointment
Played here before for a lot more money and course was in good shape with lightening fast greens. This time even though it should have been great for the time of year, the greens had bare spots in places with aerated squares on a lot of greens. The fairways were just okay but subpar also. Doubt will play here again as the price is usually steep but with COVID cut rate of 49 it was about right. Nice facility in sub par condition for this time of year. The reason I wouldnt go back is I was assured the greens were in and I quote '" PHENOMENAL " shape before I booked the day before. A LIE. i didnt drive 5 hours to play a subpar course and won't again.
Must Play Course
This is a must play course in the founders club package. The layout is pretty open with the best GPS system in Myrtle beach guiding you around the course. The practice facilities are top notch. Golf balls are waiting for you on the driving range and the short game practice area is as good as it gets. Only negative is the greens were top dressed which made them a little hard to read. The greens were not breaking like the last time we played here and I believe the top dressing was the reason. This golf course is so much fun to play. The views of the inter coastal waterway are unreal. The houses on the course are unreal almost showing off. This course is a must play.
