Hermitage Golf Course
About Hermitage Golf Course
The Hermitage Golf Club started offering more of a resort experience when eight new cottages were built in April 2016. Each unit has a great room, two bedrooms with two queen beds in each, kitchenette, two bathrooms and screened-in porch. Outside, there's a private putting green, bunker and fire pit/waterfall area for gatherings. The President's Reserve and General's Retreat are two of the Nashville area's best courses.Facts

Cannot Say Enough Positive Words
From the clubhouse to the last hole at General’s Retreat, this is an absolutely top notch facility. I genuinely cannot say enough good things about this place.
My golf partner and I are local, and neither of us have ever had a chance to get out to Hermitage, but we will absolutely be playing it regularly from this point forward. Played both the President’s Reserve and General’s Retreat. We lucked out being paired up with an awesome two-some on the President’s Reserve and finished in about 3 hours and 45 minutes. Pace was great, and President’s was in phenomenal shape from tee to green. Immaculate track, long but forgiving, From tee to green it was in fantastic shape and an absolute blast.
We headed to the clubhouse after we finished up and got our first round of beers for the price of what we shot on President’s (cannot beat a 75 cent beer), checked with staff on playing General’s that afternoon, and they were great and got us out immediately after a few beers and a bite to eat. Food was great, and grill staff was great as well.
General’s wasn’t quite on the level of President’s (likely because they had recently aerated), but was still a super fun, well-kept, awesome track tee-to-green. Played as a twosome and finished up in just under 3 hours.
My only gripe is that we saw a beverage cart once in 36 holes, but the staff let us know early on that they only had one cart out, and we prepped accordingly. They’ve got really good-sized coolers at the grill that fit like a glove in the space behind the seats on the cart, and they load them down with ice so you are good to stock up on drinks if you decide to play 36.
For under $150 total during the week, you cannot find two better courses in this country to play. The staff was as good as it gets, the course is in fantastic shape, pace was great, and we had an absolute blast. We will be back sooner rather than later.
Fun Round, Play WAY too slow
This was a fun course. Not particularly long, but a nice layout. The greens were fast, but true. They are difficult to read and many of the greens are large with multi levels with difficult pin placements.
The tee boxes had NO grass at all. They are going to have a lot of work to fix all of the tee boxes. The course is very wide and forgiving.
The staff was very nice and helpful. Range balls included in green fee.
Almost a 5 hour round was unnecessary with no marshal.
I will be back. We enjoyed the round and looking forward to the grass coming in. It's clear this course will be in good shape.
Great course
Presidents course was very well manicured, pace of play was great because it wasn’t all that busy when I played. Pro shop was helpful, carts with GPS are really nice. Course is definitely worth playing. Will definitely play again next time in Nashville. You won’t be disappointed. Sheep are neat addition.
Great Course
I played the President’s Reserve course at the Hermitage Golf Club with a friend on 11/01/20. This place is top notch. The course has 6 sets of tees to choose from and plays long. I normally play in the Chicagoland area and I could not get used to taking an extra club when needed. Do yourself a favor and take the extra club. The course itself is beautiful and plays, for the most part; relatively flat and very fair. The greens were firm and fast. The zoysia grass in the fairways helped the golf ball sit up and made each lie easy to hit from. There are a variety of holes; straight away, doglegs right and left. The staff was very friendly inside and out. There is a nice restaurant / bar area and they do serve breakfast. Lastly, do not forget to look for the Blackface Scottish sheep roaming and grazing the courses. I will definitely go back to play when I’m in the area.
Some poor conditions
Many bunkers were in poor condition and appeared to areas under repair. I was quite disappointed to see this at a course with such fees and prestige.
Overall, with these conditions, I don’t know that I would return. It was disappointing.
Strong Contender for best public course near Nashville
Played out here on New Year's day and found the course to be in good shape and very few golfers on the course which helped pace of play to be excellent. The greens were in great shape and rolled exceptionally well regardless of the time of year but particularly for December. Not as tight as it looked on Google Earth and the water hazards and bunkers are well placed to punish bad shots. Ball sits very well in the fairways and the fringe was well maintained. My only gripe would be that a number of holes seemed to be cut into the sides of the some of the undulation mounds in the greens. This was very odd as you could be above the hole and literally not have anything less than a 12 footer coming back (most notably Hole 2 which was cut right into middle of a mound) if you missed the hole. Even so, greatly enjoyed my round and will definitely be back. I found this course to be interesting and a good challenge without being gimmicky or relying solely on length to make holes challenging.
Great Track
Great course with a fun layout. Doesn't hurt that I shot a 74 which is one of my best rounds in several years. Condition was great. Watch out for sheep! This course is WAY better and more fun than the sister General course. The only downfall was a lot of players and a fairly slow round.
Play presidents course instead!
I 100% agree with Andy Glads previous review. It's a nice course and there is nothing wrong with it and it's in good condition, I just found it to be very Boring and kind of blah just like the boring and blah Gaylord Springs Course nearby The pace of play was also very slow which didn't help. Lunch in the clubhouse was great. I gave it 4 stars which is only because I couldn't give it 3.5. Play the President's course which is the sister course... Completely different layout and fantastic!!!
A must play in the Nashville, TN area
A course that can be played by all. Just select the appropriate tee box based on your skill level. Beautiful course with many risk reward holes depending on how aggressive you elect to be. Wildlife is abundant and you will most likely see deer, turkey, and others. I truly think you will be glad you selected this course after the round and will look forward to the next opportunity to give it a go.
Very Fun Course!
I was told this course was one of the best in the Nashville area, and it definitely lived up to that. I loved everything about this course. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the practice facility was in great shape. The course is not too hard, but certainly not easy either. The course conditions were very good. The greens were just changed to Bermuda a few months ago, and they are rolling great. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone in the Nashville area.
Unfriendly Staff
The staff was unfriendly, rude and unhelpful. We unloaded our own clubs, loaded them on the cart, unloaded them from the cart. It was 98 degrees and it took 5 hours to play a round of golf. The marshalll came by once on the 16 hole where 3 foursomes were backed up. We wait on every hole and every shot.. Great track well maintained, but the management and help need to be replaced. We had a 2nd rounded scheduled later in the week but cancelled it because of this experience.
Great course... high price.
I played the General’s Retreat Course and was very impressed with the condition and facility. A couple negatives were lack of greeting when dropping off clubs. Having to load and unload my clubs. Could use a few more staff members for greeting and experience. The biggest negative was that the price was the same all day... whether playing early morning or afternoon. I played later in the day when much hotter which usually results in a lower rate.
Spectacular Track in Great Shape, but Long Round
The course was really backed up all afternoon to the extent that we had 7 people tee off 18 at the same time because there were four groups waiting. Just too many people, but it's easy to understand the demand. The layout never gets dull and the course/greens is/are in great shape considering the hot and dry weather in the last two months. You can score here if you can keep it straight -- the rare exquisite course that isn't too hard for the weekend warrior.
Top Notch Public Course
Playing today for the first time, I was definitely wowed by how well the course was maintained for it only being early April. The greens rolled fast and true and the fairways played great. In general, this is one of my favorite course layouts; never once did I feel a hole was "unfair," yet I felt every hole had great risk-reward opportunities built in. Shot poorly on the front (my back, we went off 10) which put a damper in the round, but I definitely want to come back when my swing hopefully has a little more confidence later in the season. Would definitely recommend this course to a friend, though it is a little bit more on the expensive side but not outrageous.
One of the Best Public Courses I've played!
Course was in fantastic shape. Greens were quick but receptive. Fairways in tour-perfect condition, bunkers clean and raked, rough thick but not too penal.
Layout was refreshing. It felt like I was playing a resort course. Course wasn't overly long, even from the tips, and the course has a few great short-4s that require strategic play (with options) and wedge execution. Also, a fantastic set of Par 3 holes.
All in all, this is one of the best public courses I've played from a course condition perspective and from a layout perspective. 10/10.
Great Layout
Played General’s Retreat as the second 18 of the day. Course is in need of some repair due to the weather conditions the area absorbed over the winter but still fantastic to play. As this was a replay we went off at 124 and still completed in less than 4hrs.
Worth the Visit
Played Presidents Reserve early on Sunday, great pace of play. Sheep were roaming the course after the turn. Course is in very good condition. Definitely a course to play in Nashville.
Fun track!
I think they did a great job with President's Reserve - the newer track at the Hermitage.
20 of us had a great weekend in May staying in the cabins. They did a truly fantastic job putting that setup together. The condos are surprisingly luxurious and the proximity to each other gave the group space but allowed us to be together at the same time.
President's Reserve was fantastic. Resort style with wide open fairways, but really interesting holes (some of which run along the adjacent river). The condition was good to very good (I really like perfect tee boxes, and these were not), but the greens rolled great. If I were to return, I would schedule every single round on Presidents and avoid General altogether. In my humble opinion, the two simply do not compare.
Good Course - Not As Nice as President's Reserve
Perfectly reasonable golf course. I just wasn't wowed. I think I was underwhelmed by the layout. The holes were just "okay." Nothing really stood out. Conditions were good, not great. Just not that memorable of a track. If given the choice, I'd play President's Reserve every time.
Dang, you had to unload your own clubs and put them on a cart? Those people are barbarians!
