Great Resort Course
I was fortunate enough to get an early tee time for just myself. I was paired with another single but they allowed us to each have our own cart. We were able to complete the round in 3:15. The course had been aerated earlier in the week so expected it to be in worse condition but it was actually in pretty good condition. The greens were a bit sandy making it hard to read and determine the proper speed. However, these greens were. still in better shape than some other courses I've played. It is really a beautiful course!
Great tract!
Unbelievable resort course. Great from tee to green.
A bit disappointing
I play this course a few times/year, so I know what to expect when it comes to their high green fees- there are many other courses in San Antonio that are a better value. This time around, however, was particularly disappointing.
The greens were uncharacteristically slow and the tee boxes were in terrible shape. The bunkers were also inconsistent. For a course seeking $150-$200 for greens fees, even in the afternoons, that is sub par.
Given the current conditions, $60-$70 would be more appropriate.
That said, you can always rely on good service, nice carts, generally good pace of play, and a fun layout at this course.
If you have never played here before, you should, but look for a rate below $150. There are too many other great courses in the area that don’t charge nearly this much- this is a $100 green fee max in my mind, unless the course is in perfect condition, which it is not.
Thank you for playing La Cantera and providing your feedback. Our tee boxes have struggled transitioning from winter rye this summer and we are in the process of agronomic practices to restore the weaker tee boxes. We hope you will come back in the near future.
Great review! I agree with you 100%. Like you, I play there a few times a year..... and most recently played last Friday (5 July). I was a little disappointed as well. The course is better than most in the area but currently, it's certainly not worth the $175 that I paid. Way more blemishes than I expected.
As always.... the staff and facilities are Top-Notch!!
Too noisy
The ground crew followed us the entire back nine with the giant blowers on. We couldn’t even hear each other talking. Plus they blew grass on or towards us for two hours.
Thank you for playing La Cantera and we apologize for your experience with golf maintenance. We have used your feedback for training purposes with our team and someone from management will be sending you an email to follow up. Thank you and we hope you will return in the future.
Best Conditions in SA
While San Antonio struggles with keeping their courses hydrated between May and October, La Cantera has it figured out. Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, and greens are all in phenomenal shape for already being near 100°. I will be back routinely.
Thank you for playing La Cantera. We are happy to know you had a great time and we hope you return soon.
Nice course
Greens had a layer of sand that didn’t allow for true putts.
Thank you for playing La Cantera and providing your feedback. We hope you will consider returning in the near future.
Hill Country Gem
Played while visiting San Antonio on business. Had an early tee time and got out ahead most of the groups.
Staff was friendly and accommodating. Rental clubs were a good set of Callaways. They provide a pouch with 6 balls with the rental clubs. The course has a nice grass driving range with a short game area.
The layout has a fair amount of elevation change. Consistent with other hill country courses, there are a lot of trees. Fairways were pristine and the first cut of rough was playable. Some deeper rough awaits if you miss big. Bunkers are well placed and there are a few water hazards to keep it interesting. Greens had a lot of grain and plenty of humps and bumps.
I’d play it again.
Thank you for playing and for providing feedback. We have verticut the greens three times since your last round and we have aerification scheduled in June. These practices will improve the putting surfaces. Please come back next time you are in town.
Thank you for playing La Cantera. We hope you come back soon!
