Great course
This is a great course and the layout is challenging. The greens had just been aerated so I was a little disappointed that there wasn't notification regarding the greens, even with the greens being aerated they rolled nice they will be very challenging in a few weeks. The entire facility was terrific I will definitely make the hour drive on a regular basis.
Elevation changes
Nice course, but expected more from a resort/private course.
Played this course with a buddy of mine this past weekend. Lots of elevation changes and blind shots. Definitely helps to have course knowledge.
Spectacular
It was another course I have played since consulting here in Austin. This was a great course and loved the layout. Very windy day but not the courses fault and really enjoyed the signature hole (#8) although I did not play it well. very pretty hole layout.
Windy and beautiful
First time out here. Wind was gusting which added to the challenge, but elevations changes and views of the hill country made it worth it. Was behind a very slow group which made for a longer round. The Marshall checked multiple times but never put them on the clock. I asked to play through them (we only had two on the back 9) and was declined by the group. No reflections on the course though - great golf course!
Pace of Play Too Slow
We played late Monday afternoon. The front nine went well, but it seems like the marshals don't pay much attention to the pace of play. I recognize that sometimes golf is just slow, but the consistent presence of a Marshal could help identify and speed up slow groups.
Falconhead in the beautiful Austin hill country!
Falconhead was a super nice course to experience. The staff and service was excellent, very friendly! The course itself is in very nice shape. The greens were receptive and rolled smooth. The fairways were nicely manicured and kept clean. Avoid the bunkers... Some of them are quite challenging to attempt especially around the greens. Many of them are Guitar shaped... Since Austin is the Live music capital of the world! :)
Friendly Staff/Great Course
We played on Easter weekend so we expected it to be crowded. We were paired up with another gentleman and played as a threesome. We had very little wait and the marshal did a great job of trying to keep things moving on a challenging day. The staff was very friendly and we really felt welcome. This is a challenging, but fun course and we had a great time. The only thing that I can see concerning the condition of the course is that some of the greens had some rough spots on them, but I understand the challenges of keeping up greens. Thanks for the wonderful time and thanks to our golfing partner Tut for a great day!
Decent
Decent course however for the high cost of playing 18 holes I would of thought the greens and fairways would be in better condition.
Is currently under lots of needed repair
I was kind of disappointed to not be told that lots of their greens had huge chunks missing/under construction. Same with multiple bunkers. They were emptied out and had no sand. The ones that did have new sand were great. I would have not drove out there to play a course under so much work. I also remembered the greens being much faster and rolling true. It was definitely not the worse course in town but definitely not up to the standards that I am used to in the past from this course.
Long Round
I played the course on a Thursday in the afternoon. I did not finish because the pace was slow and would have been a 5 hour round. Marshalls came by but an attempt to speed this up was not on their agenda. The course condition was fair, grass was coming up, greens fast bit some of the bunkers were like gravel..
Very nice, challenging course
My first time at Falconhead and I enjoyed it very much. Lots of elevated tees, this course is an upper tier Hill Country gem.
Playing from the tips was a bit exhaustion for my, especially with the wind in your face. #13 can be a challenging carry with the wind.
Greens were soft and fast...almost felt like bent.
Long Course
Good course layout and well designed. Originally a PGA Series course so it very challenging. The staff were also friendly. Cons: Too long of a wait and not worth the money. Range not included and than we were told we couldn't finish the round because the carts had to be in by 6:40 for insurance. Twilight fee is too high. Grass is brown and no winter rye plated. Driving range tee box only has ten hitting areas and 10 range buckets.
Eh
Course was ok. For the price I would choose other courses first.
Challenging course.
This is not a course that has forgiveness in it. One errant shot can add many strokes on several holes. Bunker placement almost seems sadistic at times. Overall a very good course, there were a couple of holes under repair, but the repairs didn't come into play for us. I would play here again.
Way too much $
Was told the course is in "great condition". The course was in terrible condition and it nearly cost 100 dollars. One of my favorite tracks in ATX.... Very disappointed!
Great Austyin Area Course
Falconhead is challenging but fun. The day we played the greens were extremely fast, rolling at about an 11 according to the pro shop. Fairways were dried out but greens were good. Well worth the drive from Northwest Austin.
Bring your A game
I played a threesome with a fivesome ahead on a weekday. We felt pushed all day with the marshal asking us to speed up play. Apparently he never saw us waiting on the group ahead on at least half the holes. The group behind us kept hitting into us, so we really never got to enjoy a "relaxing" pace. Not sure if Falconhead always books tee times so close, but if so, I'd play somewhere else. Course is very challenging and I'd still like to play it again to improve the score, but for the money, I enjoy Crystal Falls much more.
Stunningly beautiful--Falconhead GC
You got what you paid for, this course is definitely not lost to any high end resort course. Hole 8 is absolutely one of my favorite hole ever played in my life. As an avid golf, it would be a shame if you never play this course. PGA staff Steve is super friendly and helpful.
interesting track with difficult greens
The course was very challenging especallly from the back tees. Undulating terrain made for intersting shots and the greens were difficult to read because of the course undulations. very enjoyable.
Good stuff
It's a tough course, especially from the tips. There are a lot of elevation changes and nice views. The greens were great. Very fast, especially on downhill/down grain putts. They are difficult to read, with some greens breaking from front to back. This also makes it hard for Joe "DT SoLo" to hold the green. There is a "valley effect", which may take some repeated playings to figure out. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and I'm usually pretty tough on golf course staffs. Everyone was very calm. There were plenty of rangers around, but they didn't harass us. Pace of play is going to be a bit slow, when you have steep green fronts that send the ball back to you, and other short game challenges. It was a great day overall.
