Located in the Texas Hill Country just off of Lake LBJ, Lighthouse Country Club in Kingsland is an 18-hole golf course with several vacation homes to rent out. These 2-bedroom/2-bathroom 1,300-square-foot units are steps from the clubhouse, which features dining and overlooks the scenic golf course. In addition to these homes, Lighthouse also has an RV park with laundry, picnic area and showers. Lighthouse (formerly Packsaddle Country Club, named after nearby Packsaddle Mountain) is an affordable stay-and-play option. The semi-private golf course, originally opened in 1968 but renovated in 2006 and purchased in 2011, has made the Golfers' Choice Top 25 golf courses in Texas in multiple years and Golfers' Choice best value in the country list.Facts

Previous weather related problems
This course is normally better, but a hard freeze damaged some of the greens. They had 6 temporary greens and even the regular greens were not has they had been in the past. Normally this course has very fast greens, good greens but fast. Now because of the freeze they were slow and spotty.
Temporary green’s aren’t bad
Many greens sanded and not in use. This normally fast greens this year are being reworked.

Very Poor Conditions
This course is in very poor shape. They have made temporary greens on 6 of the holes which has turned par 5's into short par 4's and made the par 3's about 100 yards each. The temporary greens are simply short cut areas in the fairway and are very rough as you can expect. The other 12 greens still in use are also in poor shape and have large bare spots with nothing but sandy dirt in them. I wonder if they will have to replace those greens in the future also? This course has the potential to be a nice course but the people responsible for taking care of it have lost all 18 greens including the practice greens.

First time playing this course and the last. The greens were all dead.

awful conditions
I used to play this course quite often and really enjoyed it. Finally, had chance to play it again and was so disappointed. They was absolutely no grass on the greens, It was just plain dirt. Even the grass in the fairway was more like hardpan. Was so disappointed. There was also so mention of the conditions when I booked on line, Was a waste of time and money playing this course. Won't be back here for a while. What happened???

Fun and Challenging Course, Rough Greens
The course is both fun and challenging, but the greens continue to be an issue. Best advise I can give is to set up temporary greens wherever possible and put some money into the main greens to get them back into shape. With the hot months of summer coming, it won't get better unless a lot of attention is given to the greens.

Terrible condition
I have played this course several times and have never seen it in this poor condition. Several of the greens are nearly bare of any grass and the fairways have little grass on them as well. There are many courses in the area that are in good condition but this is not one of them. It is shocking that they let this course get in this condition.

Very Disappointed
The place must going through financial trouble…and it shows
I have many ties prior and had nothing but good things to say.
But this only played 5 holes and gave up…35 mins per hole … and the greens were a disaster

Cute course, ugly greens
Challenging course which rewards accuracy over distance. Fairways were a little dry and thus the ball would roll for days Greens were in tough shape.

Delayed ; yet, worth the wait!
Lightning delayed our T-off…. Yet, owner Rick Howe was more than generous with a cup of coffee and plenty of enjoyable stories.
The course layout is challenging, and enjoyable reflecting the hill country of Texas.
Once the greens come back from winter, the course will be an even better experience and bang for the buck.

Great value and a fun, challenging course
I think this is one of the best kept secrets in the Hill Country. If we actually get some rain, then this will easily be the best value out there. Everyone does need to understand that conditions arent going to be great in a transitional time of the year or during a drought. If you catch it at the right time, you wont be disappointed.

Probably a nice course 30 years ago
50 bucks on a Saturday. Not worth. If your competitive/low handicap it was an awful course. Most holes you hit into either a dog leg or the fairway is on a crest so you can't see where the green is located. My main issue was it was a total guess where to hit your ball off the tee almost every time. The score card with hole illustrations were wildly misleading. Half the greens were concrete gray sandy dumpsterfires. If your in Austin and felt like taking a day trip to play a random course an hour away...don't play this one. Staff was super nice, locals seemed friendly.

Damage Greens
Greens are beat up......bad shape for money paid.

Awesome course!
Greens obviously took a hit from the freeze so they were a bit chewed. But still rolled great. Layout is really fun and different.it’s tight ,strategic and a little quirky on some holes. But loved what they did with the space. Definitely hard to know where to hit your first time out there. But really fun. Truly magical with all the blue bonnets out lining the fairways. They do let out large groups though. 7 person bachelor party we saw at 8 when we were putting at 2 ended up being stuck behind them at 17 and 18 somehow. Must have been over 7 hour round for them lol. 6some behind us but were local and all had their own carts. They were just as quick as the 3 of us so not bad. Looks like slow groups let everyone play through. Staff was awesome. Range was decent was really happy to see it was matless . Cant wait to go back when the greens get nicer. Definitely bring a range finder. The par 5 surrounded by red rocks and blue bonnets truly felt like a dream
