About Sonesta Bee Cave
The Sonesta Bee Cave is located 20 minutes west off Austin off Highway 71 in the Hill Country Galleria, home to a collection of shops, bars and restaurants. There is no golf course onsite but there is shuttle service to the nearby Lakeway golf courses, including public Falconhead Golf Club, and the hotel does have some limited access to the private courses at the Clubs of Lakeway. The Sonesta Bee Cave features a large, outdoor courtyard pool, 10,000 square feet of meeting space and a 5,300 square foot ballroom. Lake Travis is minutes away where a marina can be accessed, and world-famous Hamilton Pool is also a short drive away. A highlight of the Sonesta Bee Cave is not only the galleria shops and restaurants but the hotel's own rooftop Meridian 98, which features cocktails and specialty plates in a lively setting that hosts live music.Facts

Getting Run Down
Fairways and greens OK. Sandtraps look like they have never been raked. Not by the course or bu players. Bathrooms not serviced and in disrepair. A water leak in one making the floor wet. A screen kicked in in another. The paper towels missing in the bathroom by the club house. None of the bathrooms clean.
This used to be a favorite course to me. It now resembles a low class municipal course. Certainly not worth the current rates charged, even when there is a discount offered.

Nice condition for “winter” golf
Really enjoyed the layout. Well-placed trees forced me to make a few more low punch shots than I wanted. Greens and bunkers were in good shape. Cordial staff. I would love to play it again.

Over seeded (good and bad)
The fairways are over seeded for winter (good). The tee boxes are over seeded for winter (good). The greens are over seeded for winter (rye=bad). The greens are so slow with the rye that they are almost unplayable. The staff are grumpy. There was a marshal on duty that I hadn't seen before and he was friendly and helpful which surprised me because I am used to crotchety old farts running things.

Good could have been better
The course around the greens was over watered and muddy as could be. So many of my chips where in muddy lies. Sad but true. Everything was spot on as usual .

Good overall but the marshall
Got the very first tee time of the day. 2 guys 2 girls, guys walking. After the first 9th, a guy from a group of 3 behind us asked to pass us by himself so we let him. After a while Marshall approaches us saying that there shouldn't be a 4 hole gap in between players and asked us to pick up the pace. Where is the common sense here? There is NO WAY we can catch up to a single with 4 people, let alone the guy seemed pretty good as well. I know folks at falconhead emphasize pace of play a lot but that is nonsense.

Awful carts, good course
Fun and challenging layout, typically in good to great condition. Early morning rounds are slower than I’d expect. Seems like a few older guys have recurring tee times and they play brutally slow, but they are nice and let me play through. Love the course but the worst part is the aging golf carts. I’ve had them die in the middle of the ninth fairway on me, ruining the round, and others have seemed to sputter the entire round. Management needs to fix or replace these with electric asap. Can’t be charging their rates with this basic amenity issue.

Like a friend you haven’t seen for a while
Course is in good condition and the layout is great. Staff was very friendly and pace of play was exactly 4 hrs. If you haven’t been you should go play it. If it’s been a while; go play it. Lots of elevation change, greens rolled fantastic and about a 10. Challenging par 4’s and getable Par 5’s and 3’s id your irons are on. Enjoy some great holes

Too crowded
Had 2:36 tee time teed off at 3. Only had daylight for 9 holes.

Need more carts
Had to wait 40 minutes for cart, could not hit many range balls, tee off 20 minutes later than scheduled time, therefore only could play 15 holes b4 dark.
