Golden Horseshoe Green Course
Excellent value for the price. Challenging. Course in amazing condition. 4.50 hour round. Limited to cart paths only due to heavy rainfall most of the week and previous evening. However pace of play was very good. Staff attentive and friendly. Reasonable prices in pro shop and restaurant. Definitely would play again.
What a value
Challenging and picturesque. Beautiful natural setting. Terrific value.
Nice course but over priced
Course is really nice and well maintained. However greens while looking great didn’t roll out as you would think. The collars on some of the greens were had several bare spots. Just think for the price I expected more. Would play the course again, but not for the price on a daily basis.
Beautiful golf course
Great gc we played at 5:00 and had the cc to ourselves. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Course was in great shape
Good Course
The course was in good shape except for around the green fringes where they had issues and planted sod around the green fringes which caused chips to hit and run. Some greens were thin and in need of repair. Went as a foursome but they put 2 twosomes behind use and then the marshal stated to let them thru. They should have teamed the twosomes up so it would not pressure our play which was not pleasing.
A lot of fun
Great little course. Challenged my short game and provided the opportunity to work my long game without having tobe on the course for hours. Play was continuous and the people very friendly. Good place to go for a quick game.
Course was good...staff was friendly
First time on the course. Winter conditions but course was presentable and playable. Greens had tons of poa annua but rolled fast....a little bumpy. Pace of play was perfect as no one came up on us and we only saw the group in front of us once on #6. Pleasant all around.
My dad and 12 yr old son played in the cart, I walked most of the course until I couldn't...hilly and long walks between holes added up to exhaustion.
The staff was extremely friendly.
Excellent course from tee to green.
Overall course in very good condition. Greens recently aerated but rolled fine. Tee boxes and fairways in great shape for winter weather. Bunkers challenging with white sand. Took 4.5 hours for 18 holes. Will be back!
Awesome
Spectacular. Awesome golf course. Great job on the reopening of the course.. greens were great.
a williamsburg classic
all ratings save pace of play would be 5 stars if it wasnt december. nice to have a 65 degree day, but the great twilight rate and the weather stacked it up a bit. however, starters and marshals enforced the pace so it was a long but still enjoyable round! would recommend
Very Playable Course
As a Senior Citizen who has played over 900 different courses, I found that from the Silver Tees this course to be probably the most enjoyable & player friendly course I have played in my recent memory
Classic course with new greens and bunkers.
This course has some of the best par 3's you Will find anywhere. The greens were running about 11 and in great shape. Hope to get another chance to play when grass is not dormant.
Beautiful course
Very scenic course. The par threes are surrounded by water and definitely require your "A" game. Greens were well manicured and rolled pretty true. The staff at the course were friendly and very accommodating. Will definitely plan another trip .
Very fast greens.
Heavy rain in the previous days meant cart path only, but the course conditions were good.Greens were fast. More directions between the greens and the next tee box would have been helpfully. If I come back I will probably try the course again.
Amazing facility , right in the heart of Williamsburg
Beautiful course , friendly and professional staff .
Not for duffers , they are serious about pace of play , to our delight :)
Course has many beautiful holes, our favorite of course was 16 .
Choose your level of challenge , there are plenty but make sure you choose one you will enjoy .
Must play
The tee boxes were manicured. The fairways were lush and the rough was uniformed in length and semi high. The way the course was designed, each hole with tall pines of similar heights combined with the distinct green shade difference of the rough and fairway add to that, the bright sand of the bunkers. No wonder this course gets compared to Augusta. The only difference I can tell between this and Augusta was that instead of the mulch they use around the trees, Golden horseshoe uses pine needles. Greens were fast but not so steeply undulated. The layout was challenging but it was very fair. Its not everyday I pay over a hundred for a round of golf but this place was surely worth the price. I was paired up with a pleasant couple who made my experience more enjoyable. The pace was slow but that's to be expected since the place was packed because it was a perfect weather Sunday. The staff also let me have my wife ride a long for free. The pro shop was surprisingly sparse. I would have liked to buy more souvenirs to help reminisce about how great a course this was. Overall a must play if you are in the colonial Williamsburg area.
A step below Gold but a nice addition
Golden Horseshoe kept it in the Jones family when they added onto the famous Gold Course with the Rees Jones-designed Green. It's a totally different experience here, and while the courses border each other, the clubhouses are about a mile or so away. The Gold feels a little more like a resort course being so close to the Colonial Williamsburg lodging, while this semi-private facility feels a little more member driven.
The Green has its moments with some tricky par 3s and a great par-5 finisher. An Audubon Sanctuary course, virtually every hole is surrounded by dense canopy, providing a sense of solitude. It is a little more player-friendly than Gold, with mounding generally running alongside the fairways, but certainly of championship quality.
I would either play this course before the Gold, or play Gold twice. Playing it after the Gold, one of my favorites of the year, left me wanting a little more.
Golden Horseshoe Green Course
I was in the Virginia Willamsburg area. The staff at Kings Creek Plantation where I stayed suggested I play at the Golden Horshoe Green course. The fairways where a little rough due to I guess lack of rain and not watered down enough. The bunkers were in great shape and so were the greens. A little slow for my liking. Because I love fast greens. The course is challenging because of sloping and rolling greens. The fairways are very hilly. Some holes are very tight. The Course is worth 45 dollars but not no more than that in my opinion. The down side is that quite of few holes where cart paths only. 1 of them is the last hole on the 18. Which is a long par 4 if play from the tips. The Course is very long from the tips. Definitely a must play in the Williamsburg Va area. Many famous people and presidents played there. Example Obama the Kennedy's exc.
Fun executive layout with a lot of variety
Spotswood plays adjacent to the Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe and is a fun nine holes for the whole family with a couple par 4s and a par 5. That isn't to say this course is easy, as there are some tricky shots to small, elevated greens. The property is gorgeous, though a little less dramatic than the Gold and very laid back.
It's probably overdue for a slight refresh as the greens have grown very small and we had a hard time finding one of the holes. But the bones are here. Better players can have some fun shaping shots on the two dogleg par 4s, and the greens are very small, so you need to be precise.
It's a great twilight option for the whole family in a destination that's all about family fun. Part of the Gold refresh meant expanded practice facilities and a refreshed clubhouse so be sure to take full advantage.
