Improvements needed
The course has a lot of potential. Unfortunately the pace of play was slow. There was a ranger but not sure if he did anything to improve the pace of play.
The real downside were the sand traps. The majority have rocks in them. There were a number that were closed. We decided not to play out of any traps due to the potential damage to our clubs.
Beautiful course
This is a beautiful golf course for a state park course
Great Round
Conditions were great. The bunkers could use some attention but the rest of the course was nicely maintained. Staff was professional and helpful. Will be back!
first time at cacapon
It was my first time at Cacapon. I was able to tee off on time. nobody really in front of me or behind me it was a monday morning 7:56am.
I really enjoyed the beautiful green lush conditions of the course. up in the mountains. just beautiful. each cart had ball washer on it. and each tee had a little box for broken tees. I even think every hole had a trash bin. Only thing I didn't like. maybe it's just on mondays.. but there was someone mowing on every hole.. and when I was waiting for group in front of me to finish. just as they were finishing.. the guys mowing decided to go past me and tie up the course for another 4-5 minutes. they should have been paying attention to my playing.
Horrible pace of play, mismanagement
Management allowed a large party (like 50 people)to play, but yet also allowed people like me to book t times right behind them. Took 15-20 mins between holes and me and my buddy up and left after only doing 6 holes in more than two hours. Beautiful course but seemed mismanaged.
CACAPON
Great course and setting. Excellent conditions for mid-April in West Virginia. Staff all friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
Fun round - avoid the sand
The course is fairly open. Greens are small.
The course didn’t appear to be cut like it may normally set up. Greens were generally slow - not much break. The starter let us know they were scheduled to aerate during the coming week. My guess is the grass length was intentional.
The bunkers are no fun. Plenty of sand - in good shape. They were very fluffy and sometimes heavy. Avoid as much as possible. I usually do not mind bunker shots - these gave me a fit. Marshalls are minding pace of play, but are not pushy.
Hitting driver where you want it is a big plus. Plenty of trees, but not a narrow course. Most holes I hit driver. If you are really long a few holes may make you club down.
Fun and nice looking venue.
