Lakeview Golf Resort

I have played here a lot over the last few years, I’d say the course is in good shape compared to years passed. Greens and fairways were good but the tee boxes and rough were in bad shape. Men’s restroom was out of order so had to use locker room, never going to not use that space now. Had an 8:10 tee time and front 9 was great. However got to turn and two groups jumped on to 10 and slowed my pace of play considerably. Ended up having to not play last 3 holes because I had someplace to be 1pm and was concerned I’d miss it. That is how slow these groups who went off the back instead of front. Someone needs to be watching this as many people said the same thing in reviews, I’ll be back but based on this last experience and what others are saying only at discounted rates. Even early tee times can’t get around course in reasonable time.

I have played the lakeview course in the past many times because I own a timeshare. The course used to be a decent resort course but it has gone downhill, way down hill. The fairways are cluttered with weed that are higher than the grass. Lots of fairways with dead grass and dirt spots. Greens were not cut and many had diseased grass. Cart Paths looked like the Russians landed a missile, you had to drive in the grass, or dirt the cart paths were impassable. Crab grass was growing in the sand traps and it was amazing that the traps had standing water and it hadn't rained for a week. Not worth the price to play the course or for that matter stay in the hotel, but that's another story for another site.

DO NOT PLAY HERE. GRASS NOT CUT GREENS IN BAD SHAPE OWNERS DO NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS COURSE AND THEY DONT CARE. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!

It used to be a great course but obviously the owners do not care about it anymore. It’s a shame another golf course is being neglected.

This course was in awful condition. It used to be a very beautiful course with some challenging holes and great scenery. The greens are burnt and patchy. The rough is awful! The grass needs to be cut. It is a shame you lose a ball when it goes off the fairway and it’s in the rough and you can’t find it cause the grass is a jungle. A group of us used to go there every year for 2 days and play both courses and it was one of the best kept courses in Morgantown. I will never go back I asked the girl in the pro shop about the owner and she told me he’s from India and they have been trying to reach him about maintaining the course. Said they haven’t heard from him. Obviously another great course destroyed by people who don’t care. DO NOT PLAY HERE IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!

I played Lakeview regularly in college 15-20 years ago. This was my first round back since then, and I forgot how spoiled I was getting to play here. For a public course, I think the layout here from tee to green rivals almost any course I’ve played.

It starts out with 2 gettable holes early then tightens up and toughens up considerably through the middle of the front 9. The 7th is a downhill par 5 with easily 200 feet of elevation change and an awesome view from the tee. Closes with a drivable par 4 on the 9th.

The 10th is a great par 4 with an undulating fairway and framed by bunkers. From the approach on 11 thru 13 and on 17 the course opens back up. Then comes 14-16, which is a really tough, tight stretch of holes (pars 5, 4, then 3) and my favorite on the course. The tee shots are all down shoots like you see at Augusta and you better hit it solid! Then the monstrous 18th. 600 on the card but plays closer to 650-700 depending where the pin is.

Great green complexes, awesome layout. A little rough around the edges, tees and bunkers could use some work in spots but the shot value and views more than make up for that. Its a toughie, but can’t say enough good things about the course!!

The layout of the course seems to be a good course with good views but sadly everything that could go wrong with managing this course did. The tiny club house had no food and a small snack selection. One of our electric carts ran out of juice on 17. Every tee box and fairway was overgrown with GIANT clumps of crab grass and had clearly not been mowed in at least 2 weeks. Most bunkers had been left to be filled with grass and the few that weren’t were un playable. The greens were decimated. I imagine in its hay day this was a great course but now it’s not worth near the money they are charging.

Play was slow and should have had someone out speeding up slow play

Staff was super. Course has a great lay out but is not in the best of shape. The cart paths are bad and several tee boxes were in bad shape. Greens were good but had several that had bad spots. Overall, a fun course to play and fairly priced but not in the condition I am used to seeing it in.

20 years ago this moght have been a nice course. Now. It is terrible. Staff was surly. Course was in terrible shape. If I could get my money back, I still would say don’t waste your time money effort. Played 9 holes. Waiting at every hole. Bare patches and crab grass are the basic fairway.

Told the guy as I walked off after 9. His reaction. Nothing. Huh.

Course definitely needs some work. Fairways are decent, greens roll nice but sand traps need serious work. The cart paths are horrible in a lot of areas. Staff was friendly and polite. This will never be the Lakeview of old so don’t expect it if you come to play.

Let me start out by saying I have played at numerous courses in multiple states and have never had such an unpleasant experience. Myself and another fellow golfer decided to get the women out for their first actual game of golf. Mind you we have taken them to the driving rang, top golf, ect., numerous times. We knew it wouldn’t be the fastest game so we decided to schedule a tee time for 5:30pm on a Monday evening playing the back 9 to avoid disrupting other players. After we started the game we allowed one group of gentlemen to play ahead after hole 9 to not slow their game. We then played until hole 14 at 7:10pm when we were approached by an employee telling us we needed to leave by 7:30 as we have already taken to long. This in turn made everyone upset, and the women very eager to get off the course. We went back to the cart return, ask for reasoning and was told that we could only play for two hours. Note there was no one behind us and plenty of daylight left(sunset at about 9pm).They also accept tee times until 7pm. I asked to speak with a manger and was told their is no one to speak to. I expressed my concerns to the cart boy and was informed he hates his job and does not care at all. I requested his supervisors number and was told he does not have it. Spending over 160$ at this course for 9 holes and hardly getting to play half is unacceptable as well as the traumatization of the girls first golf game. We will be lucky to get them out again. I highly do not recommend this course. There are much better places to play in the Morgantown area with friendly accommodation and a much better experience. Do Better!

Lakeview used to be a special course to play. Since it was sold a number of years ago, the money out into the resorts and courses have been less that adequate. Many of the tee boxes are not maintained. The cart paths are tearing apart. This course is worth playing at $50 but any more than that your money is best spent playing elsewhere.

They hadn't mowed in days. All the garbage cans were full. Tees and greens were terrible. They just want tour money and don't care at all about the course.

July 4th weekend and nothing is well kept. Rough is a hay field, fairway is subpar. These two courses are never well kept and the best place to go in Morgantown is Mountaineer which is supposed to be the budget course. Rip off for either mountain or lakeview. Go to mountaineer or Preston

The course was in terrible shape. Weeds growing up everywhere and the rough was so deep it took forever to find a slightly misplaced ball. The greens were severely pitted and the cart path was a joke. Not the worst place I’ve played but one of them.

I am a fairly new golfer and this was my first time playing Lakeview. My friend who I was playing with, however, is an avid golfer, coaches a local high school golf team, and has played Lakeview before, though this was his first time playing there this year. I booked at Lakeview on his suggestion - he told me it was a reasonably nice course -- about on the same level as Quicksilver Golf Club near Pittsburgh, which I am more familiar with (and which is fairly close in price at ~$50 per round).

In short, the course was not as nice as Quicksilver, and my friend was surprised how much poorer the condition was vs. last year. Most fairways and greens had patches with no grass remaining, the cart paths are getting quite degraded in several spots, and the grass in the rough along the fairways looked as if it had not been mowed in weeks. I am not sure if the thick, long grass rough was intentional, but it certainly altered play and added some unique challenges. First, the thick long grass made it very challenging to find balls hit into the rough. Frequently my friend and I hit tee shots that bounced or rolled into the rough, and though we saw right where they went, when we reached the area, we had to search for 4-5 minutes to find our balls. A couple of times we simply gave up looking and dropped a new ball. Thankfully the course was not crowded or else it would have been quite backed up with people ball hunting 5 feet away from the fairways! The thick grass also made play much more challenging as balls hit through it stopped dead and did not roll; club selection was also much more challenging as well. I realize that this is a part of the game and may have been intentional, but it was certainly noteworthy and only added to the slower pace of play.

In all I could tell the course was one that had been quite nice, but has been let go a bit this season, and as a result is not quite the value I would have expected. As a comparison, a colleague of mine owns Mountaineer Golf Course (where I usually play in Morgantown), and it is a much improved and better better kept course for less money.

These guys have really started to bring back the course.

The cart paths still need work but the tees and greens are really taking shape.
