Reviews
Mountainview
Course was fun, hard, aesthetically pleasing. Not as well maintained as lakeview, but better views and variety of holes. Can't beat the value here thru GN. Will definitely be coming back.
Nice Views but a tight course
Lakeview is a great setting for a golf course. It has interesting holes with lots of elevation changes. The course is in pretty good shape. There are a number of very tight holes, especially when played from the tips, as overhanging trees make several of the holes very difficult to hit a safe tee shot.
There are nicer course, but if you can play it for less than $30, it's worth the drive. Be sure to look for Nicklaus' plaque to the left of the 18th fairway (about 275 yards out).
Challenging Course with Great Conditions
I used every Club in my bag--didn't see 150 yard markers, and afte askibng was told they were suppose to be the white/black poles stuck in Fairways, which I thought were for directions on shots, some of which are blind--the poles are not @ 150 yards., either, I was also told---tees, fairways, and greens were cut very shot, and were very green--had to watch where shots might take a side bounce, due to topography
Great Views
Great views and a challenging course with a variety of types of holes.,.
great personel
This course is nice....no doubt. But it is the kind and considerate people that work...and play there that make this course worth my while to drive to from Pittsburgh. I will continue to play this course as long as they operate in the fashion they do at this time. Thank you for keep golf classy.
The Old Girl Has Fallen
15 years ago this course was a gem, not to be missed if in the area. Not sure what has happened but the overall condition of the course has fallen dramatically. Unfortunately, the quality of the staff and their attitudes appear to have fallen along with the course. There are much better courses and far better values in the area. Skip it and hope for a rebound someday.
Nice course with lots of scenery
The course is a well maintained, visually impressive course. Very challenging layout with plenty of twists and turns. The staff was ok, but not very outgoing, except for one young man. He tried his best to correct a very bad situation with an eightsome in front of us. They were playing a personal scramble, and moved as two foursome from the tee, but not anywhere else. This create long delays for us. We played the first 3 holes before we encountered them, and then followed on 4-6, before returning to no. 4 to tried and put space between us. We played 4-9, and ran up on them again. The young man I mentioned tried to get them to move, or step aside with little success. Finally, after the 11th hole they stepped aside, and we skipped that hole. Once clear, our group completed the remaining holes in 1 1/2 hours. After driving four hours to play this course, I was a little more than frustrated. That is why I waited until the 1st of September to write my review. We also encountered issues with a grounds crew member that decided to mow the par 3 while we were teeing off over his head. If you plan on visiting this course, I suggest that you plan on six hours for the round.
Tough course
Lots and up and down hills. Very narrow drive lanes with a lot of trees. You will loose a lot of balls if your driver isn't straight. Greens were average but I played late in the season.
Bees drilling holes in green?
This course is poorly designed. Too close to backyards all around the course, OB stakes 5 yards from fairway. Very unfair. Greens had nice pace but did not hold at all. My biggest pet peeve about this course is no one fixed their ball marks and there were these HUGE bees that were drilling holes in the green, pretty much ruining some holes greens. More course maitenence is needed for sure.
Do not waste your time or money at MOUNTAINVIEW
It was my first time to west virginia to golf. I was very eager to play one of the LakeView courses as I had heard nothing but good reviews of both of them. I decided to play the Mountainview course as it was a couple bucks cheaper and my time was limited.
Pros: Friendly Staff
Cons: Almost all greens were torn apart by these giant bee's.
Bunkers were cement with a thin layer of rocky sand.
Avg course, $80 really ?
Foubd the course needs a lot of work. Bunkers are worst than most public courses. Greens were spotty from poa lost. LakeVEIW ? We saw the lake from 1 hole !
Excellent challenge
Played both the lake view course and the mountain course. Greens were in excellent condition and true . Fairways also excellent although some were slanted and difficult to play as roll would turn a great shot into a find and seek exercise in the rough. The mountain view course was not long but most shots were blind and if you have an issue with heights - this may not be the course for you. I thoroughly enjoyed both courses and would return in a second. But I would not expect to have a great score on either course
Lake view challenge
This is a nice challenging and moderately forgiving track. I look forward to playing it again soon!
Narrow, Mature Fairways and questionable rates
I went to school at WVU which is were I learned the game of golf. Lakeview was always a course i wanted to play but on a College budget knew it was too expensive to play.
Well 20 years later I returned to knock this course off of my bucket list and I was a bit disappointed.
The typical summer rate for 18 is $80. Luckily I was able to use the Golf Now rate of $29. I will say for $29 it's a great course and worth the $ but I would have been upset had I paid full price of $80.
The front 9 needed some maintenance. The greens were spotty and the rough was full of crabgrass and dandelions and the fairways were pretty beat up. The course layout itself is fun and scenic and challenging. It can be a bit to narrow at times, and keeping your driver in the bad is probably the best option.
The back 9 was in better condition but even more narrow and at times overgrown with mature HUGE trees.
I would play there again at the lower $29 but would find it hard to recommend a buddy play at full price.
BRING YOUR A- GAME TO LAKEVIEW
COURSE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. PLAY WAS VERY SLOW. 5 1/2 HOURS. PROBABLY CAUSED BY COURSE DIFFICULTY (TIGHT TREE LINED FAIRWAYS) AND INEXPERIENCED GOLFERS LOOKING FOR LOST BALLS IN THE TREES. #18 IS A BEAR- OVER 600 YARDS UPHILL TREE LINED FAIRWAY- PLAYS LIKE 700 YARDS. TOO TUFF FOR TYPICAL RESORT GOLFERS WHO PLAY OCCASIONALLY.
What happened?
This used to be a favorite - but what happened to the maintenance team? The conditions are not what it used to be. The cart paths are the worst in the world and they have forgotten the little things that used to make this place really special. At the right rate, play on.
use all your clubs on this course
Great little layout. Greens rolled true with good pace. Played after several days of storms but course was in great shape.
30 minute drive down 43
The course was typical for what you would see in this part of the country, thick rough, tight fairway, a lot of ball above/ball below feet shots. The greens were in excellent shape and the course layout was challenging. I will play this course again in the future. I'm not sure of the full price green fees w/ cart b/c I booked a hot deal t-time. If you're in Westmorland or Fayette county and want to try something other that ceaderbook/duck hollow/nemicolin hop on 43 drive 30 mins and get your money's worth on this course.
Nice Course
Very good course. I would definitely play again. Staff was great.
