Course was in terrible shape. Fairways were horrible.
The course layout was really good. However, the care of the course was in horrible, horrible shape greens bad fairways almost nonexistent, not fixed or repaired. It’s honestly an embarrassment. Arnold Palmer would be rolling over in his grave if he knew.
Great layout.
Course has a great layout (expected). Unfortunately the fairways were in rough condition. Fairways a bit soggy, expected better drainage. Greens were great. Tee boxes for the most part were in good to ok condition. Course is not worth the current public rates until the fairways improve.
Not good
Course was in miserable shape overall. Fairway and tees were really in bad shape. General maintenance was poor.
Greens were 8.5 / 10
Pro shop staff were cold and rude. Beverage cart was friendly and nice.
better in the past
some of the fairways and greens are in need of repair. the club house couldn’t find on toilet paper
Tee Boxes / No range balls
For a resort course, they certainly need to work on their tee boxes, having to search for a place to tee up with grass under your ball & feet at the same time, shouldn’t be a challenge. Also we have NO range balls to use before our round
Return to glory...
Coarse had a ton of work out into it to recover from last summers record drought. It was a pleasure to see how quickly it's come back and what the coarse will play like this summer.
Good Course, bad conditions
Staff was friendly when we got there, but there were only a few drinks to choose from and no sort of snacks you could buy. Cart was nice and had a screen for yardage. Fairways weren’t terrible, but was informed that the irrigation system didn’t work properly last year so there were some bad spots. Greens were slower than I thought they would be, and had bad spots scattered around. Cart return guy seemed to be hostile for some reason. They have a new superintendent, so i hope to see this course improve.
Beautiful course, poor maintenance
The golf course was beautifully designed by Arnold Palmer. Great layout. Pictures holes, spectacular views. Friendly staff. Conditions of the course did not meet my expectations. Majority of the tees didn’t have any grass. Tees were combined so I have no idea if I played from blue, black or white tees.
In need of some rehab
Greens were in pristine shape after three days of rain and weren’t punched like many places in the state, but drought conditions this summer in West Virginia have left the fairways and tee boxes in awful shape. Worth it at the GolfNow hot deal rate, but don’t pay more than 60$. Fairways are either large patches of dirt or overgrown and unmowed.
Disappointing
Have played this course for over 20 years on yearly vacation trips to the lake and this is by far the worst condition I’ve ever seen the course. Many tee boxes and even fairways are more dirt than green. Don’t be fooled by the holes you can see from the road. Still charging a premium price for substandard conditions.
Palmer under maintanence
Overall I would say this is a fun course. The staff were all very kind and helpful, even the starter helped plan my first tee shot as I had never played there before. There were a lot of spots where the course conditions were terrible, due to irrigation issues compounded by an unusually dry summer and then rain the week before. This caused the extremely dry patched to become muddy. One odd thing... The "turn" isn't really a turn at all because the green for 9 and the tee box for 10 are NO where near the clubhouse. Plan on bringing extra water or drinks. That being said, they did have a drink cart driving around. All in all though it was definitely worth the price.
