Stonewall Resort

The golf course was beautifully designed by Arnold Palmer. Great layout. Pictures holes, spectacular views. Friendly staff. Conditions of the course did not meet my expectations. Majority of the tees didn’t have any grass. Tees were combined so I have no idea if I played from blue, black or white tees.

Greens were in pristine shape after three days of rain and weren’t punched like many places in the state, but drought conditions this summer in West Virginia have left the fairways and tee boxes in awful shape. Worth it at the GolfNow hot deal rate, but don’t pay more than 60$. Fairways are either large patches of dirt or overgrown and unmowed.

Have played this course for over 20 years on yearly vacation trips to the lake and this is by far the worst condition I’ve ever seen the course. Many tee boxes and even fairways are more dirt than green. Don’t be fooled by the holes you can see from the road. Still charging a premium price for substandard conditions.

Overall I would say this is a fun course. The staff were all very kind and helpful, even the starter helped plan my first tee shot as I had never played there before. There were a lot of spots where the course conditions were terrible, due to irrigation issues compounded by an unusually dry summer and then rain the week before. This caused the extremely dry patched to become muddy. One odd thing... The "turn" isn't really a turn at all because the green for 9 and the tee box for 10 are NO where near the clubhouse. Plan on bringing extra water or drinks. That being said, they did have a drink cart driving around. All in all though it was definitely worth the price.

Amazing layout. Plenty of room and lots of interesting holes. Bring a few extra balls, there are some areas where you won’t even bother looking for that slice :-) Everyone in the Stonewall Jackson Resort area was exceptional during our stay there but the manager at the course - Jacob - went above and beyond. I play a lot of golf but this was my first round in West Virginia and Jacob made me feel like an old friend. I would recommend this course as much for it’s layout as it’s staff. It’s six hours from my home, but I will be back :-)

This course is well laid out and has some scenic holes along the lake. The course conditions are not very good right now though. I’ve played this course multiple times and I am usually very happy with it. This time multiple fairways and most of the greens were burnt. It made approach shots into the greens difficult and putting almost impossible. They should definitely not be charging normal rates to play right now.

There I was, sitting on the couch Friday night when the wife says, “I’m going to take the kids down to my parents house since you have to stay in the area” (had to stay in the area in case I got called into work(duty week)). So I immediately get into GolfNow to see if there are any hot deals. To my surprise? Stonewall resort for 21.99 plus applicable taxes and fees!!! I’m elated, I book the tee time knowing my family is going to be out of town and I’ll have a nice, relaxing, cheap round of golf at stonewall resort.

My wife says to me on Saturday morning, “never mind we’re not going to my parents”. So I never made it to stonewall, and because I declined the protection policy, I couldn’t even get a refund. 27$ for a tee time that

Came and went, unoccupied.

On the bright side? I prolly scored better by not golfing.

Coarse is in summer condition already. Fast greens and thick rough.

This course and resort is spectacular. Golf course was in amazing shape and greens were perfect. Greens had good speed and were very true. Amazing views, clubhouse is excellent. Restaurant and bar inside with plenty of options around the resort for food and beverages as well. First time playing in a few years, it is in a lot better shape then last time I played it. Looks like things are headed in the right direction.

We were driving up from Myrtle Beach home to Toronto and found this course. Truly amazing round. Course was in wonderful conditions. Excellent layout. Lots of challenging elevation changes and many very scenic holes. I would highly recommend

Coarse is in great shape coming out of winter. It looks like it will be another good year in 2024 at Stonewall.

played october 12th, as they have an annual veterans day outing. I would just like to personally thank the management and all the crew involved who put on this event every year for the veterans. the course had a few bare spots but that is to be expected this time of year other than that it was in great shape. greens rolled true and VERY fast for the average golfer. another great year of golf, we only played a threesone, and had a single pair up with us on the 3rd hole, turned out he was in Nam with a cousin I was playing with both flew into danang on christmas of 67. Just wanted to say again THANK YOU very much for the round of golf and hope all the staff knows how much we appreciate what you do for us.

A absolutely beautiful course design and facilities. Incredible views. The course was a bit wet due to rain but some issues with scalping and bare spots. Overall I am glad I played this course and would surely go back.
