The Golf Courses of Lawsonia

About The Golf Courses of Lawsonia
The Golf Courses of Lawsonia in Green Lake is one of Wisconsin’s greatest golf treasures. The Links is a classic inland links of blind shots, mounding and incredible hilly topography to challenge and engage the best of players. The newer Woodlands course delivers a contrasting viewpoint with tons of trees and more elevation changes. It’s a high-caliber 1-2 punch. Lawsonia offers three homes for onsite accommodations: The Moreau House with a single and double suite; the five-bedroom Birches House and the three-bedroom Dawson House. Langford’s Pub is located inside the clubhouse, featuring a Friday Fish Fry and Saturday Prime Rib specials.Facts

Great course
The course was great and wonderful, but the bunkers were junk!!! Although its not suppose to be easy to hit out of the bunkers, none of them were groomed at all. Multiple times I found my ball sitting in the bottom of a deer foot print
Slow
Five and a half hour to do eighteen. Waited at every hole for three groups ahead of us.
A good course to play
My tip to golfers would be to just enjoy the course for what it offers. It's already ranked by Golf Digest as a Top 20 in Wisconsin so there's not much a guy like me can say that that would overwrite their review. We were able to get a Golfnow hot-deal which allowed our foursome to play the course at $30/player so at that price we were extremely impressed. I think our views may have changed slightly if we paid anything over $65/player. There is another course fairly close called Castle at Northern Bay which is just as nice with 7 replica holes from top courses in the United States. If you can make it over there, that's what I would recommend. It is truly a "Diamond in the Rough" and I look forward to playing it again if I'm up that way in the future.
Beautiful design
Well designed golf course. Conditions left something to be desired. Greens bumpy. Sand traps some with no sand. Others way too much sand. Took outa bunch of trees recently should have saved the money and put into maintenance of the course.
BEWARE - Links Greens & Tees were aerated this past week
Since I'm a golf nut and student of golf course architecture I made a special trip out to this course booking a hot deal on Golfnow this past Saturday the 8/29 for Weds 9/2. It's one of most outstanding old school golf courses I've ever played (I've been fortunate to play a lot of them) and I really enjoyed and was honored to play this historic Langford/Moreau tour de force. Wonderful track/routing and really really cool green complexes....every hole keeps your interest. Course design in itself is 5 stars (regardless of conditions) but starting next paragraph below is what your really need to know about current conditions before you go out there.....and allowing for 4 stars overall only because the pro/clubhouse manager made up for it after I complained about the conditions and course maintenance we were faced with that was going on during our round.
Fairways were in great condition and they were aerating the tee boxes as we played our round. Traps were okay but sketchy/inconsistent and my playing partner ripped up one of his wedges hitting a rock or some rocks in one of the numerous deep greenside traps. Upon arrival were were warned by the starter that they had just aerated greens a couple of days ago with small holes and that the practice putting greens was not mowed and we'd find the greens on the course much faster.....exact opposite occurred. Checking in at the clubhouse we were assured greens were very playable. There were playable but highly inconsistent. They also had issues with aeration equipment not working properly and was told they had to bring in equipment that worked.... While I understand that golf courses have to aerate from time to time they aerated directly prior to a Labor Day holiday weekend? Boy are they going to have some unhappy folks over the holiday...and during my post round review with mgmt in the clubhouse they stated that their aeration greens fee/cart rate is $45 or $55 (one of those I don't remember exactly) and there's no warning on Golfnow and the rates they want on GolfNow (just checked) are still higher than that?
I'll be definitely going back to Lawsonia next year - and very much looking forward to it. As stated the management did make it up to me....but I don't think anyone could imagine a course aerating greens this early/directly prior to a holiday long weekend.
Golf Now value
Great value with Golf Now discount. Course was in good shape for the end of summer.
Yes but Not for Walkers
The Links course is a great classic course but it is not walker friendly. Few sprinkler heads were marked and there is no system to identify where the pin is on the green. Cart riders are given a laser scope but walkers are on their own. Walkers beware.
Great Course but not Walker Friendly
The Links course is a great classic course. I enjoyed playing it but it is not walker friendly. Since I like to walk, I called in advance to assure that they would have a pull/push cart available. What I got, was a decrepit old cart held together by adhesive tape. It was like dragging a dead body around the course. The course is not accommodating to walkers. Few sprinkler heads were marked and there is no system to identify where the pin is on the green. Cart riders are given a laser scope but walkers are on their own. Walkers beware.
Interesting, very fun course
A really unique, fun layout. Bunkering is at steroid levels, yet fair and visually appealing. Massive, deep bunkers, and elevated greens make for a unique, fun day. Greens are tiered in many cases as well. Back nine seemed better, and more links like. There was plenty of room off the tee for tee shots. Par threes were all fantastic. Course in great shape. Will be back !
Fun course. It's a bit tougher than most so the pace of play was a bit slower.
Make sure to get out to this course.
From Milwaukee it's a ways out but well worth it for the money.
Beautiful Course
One of the prettiest courses I have played. Very tight with not a lot of room for error but also pretty short which balances out the course.
Awesome Links Layout
Lawsonia Links deserves the accolades that it gets. This is a great links design. There is some fescue on the course, but the fairways are generous and there is also plenty of rough to save your ball from the fescue. The greens are very large and the undulations force you to plan out your chips/pitches accordingly. I really enjoyed the course and cannot wait to go again!
Done with Lawsonia!
Rocks in the sand traps and rock hard greens that won't hold a wedge from 100 yards. Used to love these two courses but not going backwards!
We liked the friendly staff
Each summer, my son, sons in law and I go someplace different for a couple rounds of golf, and this year we chose Lawsonia. We're glad we did. The course was terrific, with the possible exception of the traps on the woods course, and everyone we met was polite and courteous, making it a very enjoyable experience.
Beautiful course.
Amazing course. Beautiful scenery. Very challenging. Love it!
Excellent condition
First time at the course on vacation from Indiana. The staff was nice and friendly. The course was in excellent condition, and the pace of play was good. A lot of different hole designs and not many holes that you could even see another hole. Would play it again even thou it's a bit expensive for my taste. Definitely one of the best courses I have ever played. Must check it out, will try the Links the next time.
This is a MUST PLAY!
I played this course many, many years ago. I thought maybe my memories of a great golf course were exaggerated. Not at all! This is what I imagine playing on Augusta National at the Masters would be like. You will love this course!!!
What a great golf course
One of my all-time favorite courses. Great layout. Very challenges greens complexes. Course is in great shape. Loved it.
GREAT VALUE !!! BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT!! VERY IMPRESSIVE!!
We played the woodland course and part of links. I thought it was very relaxing and fun. The links was played like a true links with big greens and firm fairways. Woodlands was great enjoyed different elevation changes. I would recommend this course. Great value
Greens were Fair
The overall shape of the course was pretty good with the exception of the greens. They had been aerated but the pro shop didn't mention that fact when we checked in. The greens hadn't come back to 100% and were bumpy but very fast.
The fescue grass wasn't that tall but still problematic if you would find yourself in it.
