St. James Plantation in Southport boasts 81 holes of championship golf. There are four 18-hole golf courses and one, the Members Club, has a nine-hole extension. Hale Irwin, a three-time U.S. Open winner, designed the 27-hole layout. The original 18 holes of the course present a challenging test even for advanced players, which is why a more playable nine-hole layout was added. No matter what skill level, golfers can find a combination that suits them on the Members Club course. Multiple tee boxes make the course even more accommodating. Water hazards come into play on a few holes and there are also strategically placed bunkers throughout. The golf course is in good company too, it is joined by a Nicklaus design layout as well as one designed by P.B. Dye.
