River's Edge Golf Club

The course that I really wanted to golf in Okotoks was the D'Arcy Ranch Golf Club but I wasn't able to find a tee time on a busy weekend so River's Edge Golf Club was a pleasant alternative.

River's Edge GC is a friendly course for golfers of all abilities. That being said there are a couple of holes on the front that get your attention. The view from the tee on Hole 3 will make you pause as you will need to land your drive onto a strip of fairway flanked on both sides by water. Then you can breathe easier until Holes 8 and 9. Water all along the right side of the fairway on 8 will make you uncomfortable. Hole 9 is a mid length Par 3 with an island green to close out the front. I'm pretty sure there has been many a golfer that has failed to make the flight from tee to green on those two holes.

Hole 11 is a picturesque, downhill Par 3 that plays well. Holes 13 through 15 will test your ball striking prowess as these narrow fairways are lined by towering poplar trees. I was looking for the beer cart after that stretch of holes.

Friendly service, good layout, fair course conditions and more than a few strong holes made this stop a pleasant surprise.
