The all-inclusive theme of the Riviera Maya in Mexico has bled into the area's golf clubs over the past few years. Leading the charge are the Iberostar Resorts and the Palace Resorts. Guests at these high-end resorts get premier pricing playing golf, but anybody who wants to go all-inclusive on the course can get the same experience for a surcharge. Jason Scott Deegan has more from Cancun.
The Fairmont Mayakoba isn't like your common, Mexican beachfront high-rise resort. While there are some beachfront luxury villas, the majority of the 401 units are luxury casitas set along canals. They boast marble floors, both shower and bath and private balconies overlooking the canals. What's more, canals, thick mangrove forest, cenotes and two beachfront holes make for 18 holes with many faces at PGA-worthy El Camaleon Golf Club.
Walking inside the Grand Hotel at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Resort feels a bit like slipping down the rabbit hole and landing in a lap of Alice-in-Wonderland luxury. There's a new sight to behold in every direction, a stark contrast to the desert surroundings guests see on the 45-minute ride from the Cancun International Airport. And the best is still to come. The salt-water infinity pool and beach at the back of the property are where people worship the sun god, much like the Mayans did centuries before. So this is what they call paradise.
Mayakoba, the resort development on Mexico's Riveria Maya, has a brand new resort: Andaz, a contemporary and stylish alternative to Fairmont, Banyan Tree and Rosewood.
One of the biggest thrills of a Mexico golf vacation is the opportunity to commune with the exotic native wildlife, and you don’t even have to spray your ball out-of-bounds to do it.

The annual PGA Tour stop at at the Fairmont Mayakoba resort and El Camaleon Golf Club boost the profile of this Mexican property to elite status. Take a look at the beauty of the hotel and seaside setting of a championship-level golf course.
The 7,024-yard El Camaleon Golf Club annually hosts the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, the PGA Tour's only stop in Mexico or the Caribbean. The Greg Norman design, tucked inside a lavish resort development 40 minutes south of the Cancun International Airport, traverses through three ecosystems: the jungle, mangroves and the beach.
You won't find an architect better suited to design golf courses in Mexico and the Caribbean than P.B. Dye. Dye loves to shape wild mounds and undulating greens, and that philosophy served him well at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club in the Riviera Maya south of Cancun. The course is another strong amenity of the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Resort.
You can count on one hand the number of Mexican resorts that reach the level of service and splendor of the Rosewood Mayakoba along the Riviera Maya. The entire Mayakoba complex (home to three resorts and the El Camaleon Golf Club, which hosts Mexico's only PGA Tour event) is paradise. This posh 1,600-acre retreat 40 minutes south of the Cancun International Airport is committed to luxury.
