Mobile, Alabama might be best known for its love of college football -- it hosts a bowl game and an all-star game stocked with seniors with NFL dreams -- but there's much to love about this intriguing Southern city at the mouth of the Mobile Bay. It's home to the original Mardi Gras celebration, an eclectic mix of downtown restaurants and shops and some really good golf. An LPGA Tour venue highlights a versatile golf scene. Here are the five best places to play golf around Mobile.
Golf should be a part of any trip to the Gulf Coast area of Mississippi, where visitors will find some outstanding courses as well as superb accommodations, great restaurants and a quality of Southern hospitality that is unmatched. A recent trip to the area included four courses that ranged from good to great. Here's a look at them.
Brandon Tucker checks in from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where the cuisine and good times match the great golf at courses like Fallen Oak, Grand Bear, Shell Landing and more.
With states now free to create their own sports betting laws, which golf destinations are poised to reap the benefits? Brandon Tucker examines.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast features more than 20 golf courses, large casino hotels, great restaurants and beautiful beaches at a price that fits the budget of most travelers.

The nationwide explosion of casino gambling has fueled an interesting side effect -- a nationwide explosion of casino golf courses, often of better quality and at lower prices than their non-casino peers. In few places is this selection larger, better or more of a bargain than on the Gulf Coast, where famous designers and full-service hotels vie with plush beaches and wonderful regional cuisine for the traveler's attention.
Biloxi, Mississippi is a bonafide "bang for your buck" golf destination, and Grand Bear Golf Course in nearby Saucier is a big reason why. Golfers are greeted with a Jack Nicklaus signature design at a fraction of most Golden Bear courses.

Since coming on board a few years ago, the Mississippi Gulf Resorts Classic has become a favorite among Champions Tour players. One reason is the hospitality and food, but another is the host course, Fallen Oak Golf Club, a superb Tom Fazio layout in Saucier, Miss.
Grand Bear Golf Course, a semiprivate course that also serves as an amenity for guests at the Harrah's Gulf Coast, is simply one of the most enjoyable Jack Nicklaus designs you'll ever play. The fairways are generous, the greens are beautifully sculpted and the bunkering, while not easy, frames the holes well. Plus, it's carved out of natural forest and wetlands that give each hole a memorable look.
