Tom Doak first developed a passion for the art of course design the summer after college graduation when he worked as a caddie in St. Andrews and then spent time studying every Scottish and Irish golf course of note. He has since become one of the business's leading figures, heading up Renaissance Golf Design and crafting bucket-list plays like Pacific Dunes in Oregon (perhaps the truest expression of links golf in North America), Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand, The Renaissance Club in Scotland, and Streamsong Blue in central Florida. In 2014, Doak published the first volume of a new five-volume edition of "The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses," which will contain critiques that are certain to rankle some of his contemporaries.
