Cliffside is a shell of its former self
I grew up in the Gallipolis area until I moved to Tennessee a few years ago. I decided to return for a week and felt like playing the course I grew up on. To say that I was shocked would be a huge understatement. This course is a complete shell of its former self. This was truly the best golf course below the Chillicothe line for most of my childhood. Now it is without a doubt the worst. Number 1, the prices are absolutely ridiculous. ($36!!!) This course is one of the most expensive courses I have played at in this part of the state. The fairways are super long and have dandelions everywhere. If you miss the fairway then you will not find your ball. The greens are slower and bumpier than any I’ve ever played on. The reason the pace of play is so good is because nobody bothers to play here anymore, they go to other courses surrounding the area. It is just a bar now. Truly disappointed with my experience and shame on the ownership for ruining one of the gems of Gallia County. Do no come here!
This place used to be really good until the ownership change
Oh where do I start. This used to be a gem of the course with unique tee boxes. One was on an island even, there was nice sand then the new owner took over. He is a jerk wad with a severe case of little man syndrome. He treats his paying members like garbage and pockets all the profits instead of putting some work back into the course. He straight up let all the bunks grow grass and even had one filled with full dirt. Complete disgrace to the course. Remember the island tee box? It is no longer recognizable as he closed it so he wouldn’t have to maintain its just a poor bridge leading to a bushy over grown island with no remembrance of the tee box. The fairways are long as the rough and the greens are so bumpy that you could hit a put 100 times and it will do 100 different things. Honestly save your money do not give it to the owner as he bought himself his own ritzy golf cart while the course gets worse and worse every year.
Solid Course in Southern Ohio
Solid Jack Kidwell course in southern Ohio. Course is on mostly flat terrain, with several of the northern holes are on the hillier terrain.
Who is giving 5 stars?
This is a 2 star course at best. The course was not well kept. The tee boxes were worse than the rough. The greens were slow and had dirt spots on some. Will not play again. I wouldn't recommend.
Cliffside
Excellent course, very good greens, beautiful scenery, challenging holes with good chance for birdies.
Hidden gem
New owners really care and are doing a great job. Friendly with weekend games where all are welcome. Drive 35 miles one way and pass several other courses to play here! Jack Kidwell is legendary in Ohio.
Saw some ok reviews and have played the other courses in the area. I was quite impressed. Greens were fairly green and I could see the course layout. I got exactly what I paid for and really enjoyed the course. I'll be back to play some more.
