Good challenging course
We had foursome with very little playing pressure the entire round.
Greens and fairways in good shape. Rough was pretty dried out with some bare spots.
Many holes have blind shots to greens which were harder with our unfamiliarity with the course.
Overall good time and would recommend.
Peaceful Easy Feeling
I was a former member of this club when it was private. Shelby has a new owner who is dedicated to investing the money needed to make this a first rate golfing facility. Many changes were already apparent. The clubhouse is in the process of a full renovation and will offer a full service fine dining restaurant. The current snack bar is well-staffed and offers very tasty snacks and sandwiches as well as popular cocktails, beer and refreshments.
The golf course is not easy. The first time player will be challenged on the front nine by the changes in elevation and greens which are small and difficult to hit in regulation. The second nine offers larger greens but much tighter tree- lined fairways which stand ready to raise your score! Many trees have been removed in the name of water conservation, but there are still more than enough for your errant shot to roll behind. The greens are usually fast and require placing approach shots carefully on the green. Above the hole is never good!
Water and bunkers guard the fairways and greens on the par 5's and par 3's. When the wind blows it can be a long day!
Shelby is a beautiful and peaceful golf course. I recommend teeing off late in the afternoon and finishing near sunset. The filtered light through the many trees and the shadows they cast on fairways and greens will leave you smiling and relaxed no matter what your score.
Worth the drive
I did not expect much since my fee was $14.
When I saw the course from the road I was a bit shocked. It looked lush and well kept. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They found three guys for me to join and they had been members at Shelby Country Club when it had been private. They helped me all the way around.
The tees and fairways were in good shape and the greens were above average. Pace of play was just under four hours and we played behind a fivesome.
It was 1.25 hours from my house in Akron but I will go back monthly till the snow flies. I'd recommend playing this course up to $25 but don't think I'd pay more than that due to the drive.
Had a sandwich at the turn and it was about $10 with fries and a drink and tip. Not a bad sandwich either!
Overall I'll recommend this course to my friends and will try to get our Friday group to play this one.
This course has a lot rolling hills and and tight turns
This course was an excellent course to play how ever there was water every where. I felt as though I was constantly chipping out of the swamps. How ever as the morning progressed and the sun dried out the course things had gotten much better.
This course make player have fun
This course make player excited.
There are not straight courses in all,
but not too hard.
We need to play with some strategy.
Beautiful Course
Highly recommended! A beautiful course that is well maintained. Will definitely play this course again!
Amazing!!!!
This is one of my new favorite courses! I had such a great experience. The staff was great, facilities were great, and best of all, the course was in beautiful condition. Great test of golf but also some really fun, shorter holes make it a great test of golf yet very enjoyable. To top it all off you cannot find a better deal on golf now for the value of this course! I will be making weekly trips here from now on.
Nice Layout
Very happy I chose to play this course. The layout is very appealing to the eye. Greens putted very well considering we had just had a rain storm go through that morning. Highly recommended.
