About
Western Texas has been the municipal course of Snyder since the late 1970s. This 9-hole course, located on the grounds of Western Texas College, allows you to take full advantage of the West Texas winds, as most holes seem to play downwind. The layout sets nicely in the rolling terrain around Snyder, and the architect was able to incorporate several natural hazards as part of his design. When asked about the challenges of the course, locals most often referenced the tricky, undulating greens, which often cause the dreaded three-jack.
There is only one par 5, and all of the par 4s are under 400 yards, including the welcome 290-yard finishing hole (267 yards from the middle tees). The most difficult hole is No. 5, a 345-yard par 4. From the middle tees, go for birdies on the short par 3s, which shouldn’t require anything more than an 8 iron.
Getting there : From I-20 driving east, turn left on Hwy 84 and drive about 23 miles to Snyder. In town make a left on Colorado City Hwy., travel to South College Ave., and make a right. The course is on the right side of the street.
