Amazing--Peaceful--challenging!
Tokatee Golf Club is the most enjoyable course that I play. The surroundings are beautiful (Mountains, 150' trees, and wonderfully cared for fairways and greens. I am fortunate that I have the opportunity to play 10-20 courses a year. Tokatee is , by far, my favorite. I play courses on the Oregon coast (Florence Golf Links, Bandon, Salishan). I also play in Palm Desert, Ca. (Desert Willow, The Golf Cub at La Quinta, Desert Springs). When I have out of town friends join me at Tokatee, they marvel at the playability and beauty of this special place. MVW
Smokey Day
Unfortunately there was a forest fire 3 miles from the course on the day we played which obscured some of the scenic value of the surrounding valley. As for the course, have to say first that letting 6 sums on the course is just bad course management. The starter told us that the group was told prior to tee off to let all groups behind them play thru. However, that didn't happen. Fortunately we were only held up and had to endure their loud rap music on the last 4 holes. As for the course itself, the first few holes are pretty bland and wondered if I had made a mistake playing here. However, from the 4th hole on, the course takes on a character that makes it worth playing. Overall conditions were fairly good and greens rolled true. The course is fairly flat with trees lining many fairways and water comes into play on a couple holes. Overall, it a fun play and a decent test of golf skill. It's not the course you'll find in Bend or on the coast, but worth a play if you're in the area or looking for lower cost but worthwhile play.
Scenic value course around the bend
I played this course on my first trip to Oregon back in 2008 as part of my journey to Bandon Dunes. I ended up staying in the state for a solid two weeks. What stuck out to me was how quickly the landscape can change, and case in point is Tokatee. You're on a valley floor surrounded by mountain scenery, yet you're about an hour due east from Eugene. It's one of my favorite courses to play under $50.
