Friendly and challenging
It reminded me of my old small town municipal course. It had that laid back, small town feel to it. My skills have dropped with my age (78), so I found lots of hazards. There is a premium on finding the fairway.
CLEAN THE GOLF CARTS!
The course was fine, but the filth of the golf carts was unbelievable! Every cart had sticky spills, dirt etc. You couldn't use the cup holders or the cubby holes for storage. And every cart was in this condition! GROSS!
Weeds and very little grass. Sand traps are mostly big weeds and dirt.
Played nine holes and just left. Wouldn't waste my ti.e ever playing there again.
Play this course!
Watson is a hidden gem that appears to go widely unnoticed, likely because of the sexier draw of the Bandon experience just down the road. I discovered this course on a road trip from Southern California to the Northwest; I searched Golf Now for a well reviewed course with reasonable rates and Watson far exceeded my expectations. The friendly starter greeted me by name when I arrived and drove me to the first tee - which wasn't necessary, but very nice. The course is beautiful and well maintained. From the tips the course is challenging: the first two holes are long par fives that even big hitters would have trouble reaching in two; the tee shot off the the third is extremely tight and the hole plays to an uphill green; undulating fairways and elevation changes make the front tough. The back nine looks wide open from the tee of the tenth, but you'll find it becomes very tough very quickly and the 158 yard 16th from the top with its fierce wind and deceptively long carry is one of the toughest par threes Ive played. Play this course!
Nice course play.
It is a nice course, I have played this course many times in the past. The lower fairways on the front nine are still a little wet. The back nine (newer) have better drainage and are playing nice.
great trac
this course has character, lots of elevated tees, great layout..greens are in good condition even in winter...
