Great course. Excellent par 3’s
I’ve played here a lot. Other than a few holes where the greens are really bad. It’s a great place to spend the day. Wish the greens were better on 7, 16. Unfortunately they are in a very bad way. The course is still very good.
still a classic
The tornado did damage but overall its still one of my favorite courses. Only negative is the greens on the back 9 are pretty chewed up. The greens make this course what it is.... overall I love this place and will support it.
Kankakee Elks
Course is still recovering from the March 10th tornado. Greens are rough, but will take a little time to get back in shape.
Disappointed
I waited for about 7-10 minutes on most tee boxes and nobody was allowed to play through the slow play. The course is in bad shape after storms hurt the course earlier this year. A few greens are still unhealthy and really bumpy when putting.
Tornado Damage
It's been a number of years since I played The Elks and time hasn't been kind to it. First the good: Fairways and tee boxes were fine, as is the course layout. Par 3's are tough! The fellow at the desk was very friendly, and forewarned me about some of the greens, attributing it to recent tornado. Well, the green8s were poor, but it looked to me like it was from a disease or fungus, which was disappointing, because the greens there used to be great and very fast.
Tough but fair
The Elks is a great golf course. I would highly recommend for an intermediate level golfer as it can prove a bit difficult at times.
SHORT GAME NEEDED!
It was really amazing to see the devastation of the tornado coming through in March. Large trees along the fairways were completely uprooted and snapped off. Great job cleaning up the downed trees. No real; hazards on the course.(Water/Sand). 3 temporary greens due to the damage but not a round killer at all. Course otherwise in great shape. Most of the greens are elevated and the green surface is heavily undulated and real fast. When u play here you ABSOLUTELY have to have a short game with approach shots, pitching and putting. The bar was small but nice and the drinks were cheap. Bartender was extremely nice!!! Will enjoy coming back here!!!
Back in the swing
Course was in great shape after being hit with recent tornado and the amount of work needed to have it this playable was unreal. Great job staff and all who helped.
Lives up to its rep!
Well-conditioned and maintained, the course has long been known for its tough elevated greens and tricky, fast, contoured putting surfaces. It’s all true! Bring your best putter and pitching wedge with you. Nothing else is a challenge here - it’s all short game stuff. No water, no sand. Some seemingly randomly placed mounding close to the greens are a factor, too. It’s a long ways to travel to be frustrated with repeatedly short approach shots and wildly missed putts, but you need to experience the toughness of the Elk at least once!
Great course. Driving range is irons only.
Drove an hour to play here. Great course. Was in great shape. Tee boxes were in great shape fairways were nice. Greens are big and challenging.
