Just hanging in there
This golf course is way overpriced for the shape it’s in. It just needs a lot of TLC
Douglas
the reason for the poor ratings is due the the fact that i had to drive over an hour to get to the course just to find out that the tee time i booked was not valid, why would you ask, well let me tell you , they are NOT OPEN on Mondays, so it was a waste of my time and drive down to the course to not get to play
City of Douglas' Oldest Course
This course is the only golf course in Douglas, AZ. It is a typical "west Texas" course. Lots of wind. Long and straight. Hard "fairways". And right on the Mexican border. It is worth the trip to play, just so you can say you have played there. Stay at the Gadsden Hotel (REALLY worth it). And, absolutely sit at the bar at the course, and talk to the locals. It genuinely is a social club, even if it is not much of a golf course.
Course was closed
We were surprised when we got to the course that it is closed every Monday. After waiting around for some time, we spoke to a maintenance man and he got us a cart and allowed us to play. Golf Now should now have accepted our reservation for a day when the course was closed.
Last Round in April
If you want to have fun playing golf, try different courses. The course at Douglas is fun. If you have played in Scotland, the front 9 plays just like it. Upside down saucer greens that require precision second shots or a very good short game. 2 holes come out in your memory when you play this course. #3 is a mid length par 3. Bunkers right and left and a small narrow water feature across the front. Oh yes, water far left. What a cute hole! The very next hole is a 500 yard par 5. You guessed it. A nice little water feature on the front right going around the right side, next to the green. The overall course plays just like a links type course, the exception is that there are no run up greens, just the upside down saucers. If you're down in the Douglas area, and you like to play golf, you will enjoy this course.
Good course
The changes are going to be real nice the staff is great especially Ricky Ricardo
A Municipal Golf Course
Overall a great value for what I paid on Golf Now ($5) per person including the cart! However, it is a bit off of the beaten path and unless you happen to live in Douglas, you will travel to get there. We played on Sunday and tee off was at 1130. There were a decent amount of golfers already on the course but not many came to tee off after us.
Overall a fairly flat course with just a few hazards. The fairways are pretty wide and the greens in decent shape.
The staff consisted of only one individual to run the bar, clubhouse, and pro shop. When we arrived the pro shop was locked up and once we found the one worker there at that time he did not have the golf now reservation in his computer. Luckily I had the confirmation email on my phone and he let us play based on that email.
Great course
Had fun. The course is a bit dry and the greens need to be watered. There was no water on the back nine and it was hot.
make it your own
greens are excellants, fairways in good condition, sand traps are hard, as in muddy hard, not loose sand,
winter golf
Fairways dry grass, surprisingly slow greens, Front 9 pretty traditional, back 9 added later, more of a desert course. Fun course, nice staff, usually not too crowded./
Great Course to Actually get out and Relax
Course needs some maintenance in several areas, but every time I’ve been out there, the crew is definitely working hard at doing what they can. Best quality of this course is the “laid back” feel when you’re out there, also the friendly staff. It is definitely a family friendly course that a player of any level will feel comfortable at.
the course is always fun to play
this course has some great challenges. the back nine could use some tending...will play again when visiting
Theres no food!
The course is in average condition. There is grass in most fairways. The greens are nice except for a couple of them. The staff is young and no knowledge of golf. Do not go on weekends there is no marshall to control people starting wherever they want and causing some slow down for people. There is also no where to eat! If you get this course for a good price then its worth it.
Very good for the price.
The course is very good regarding price and challenge. Don't take it for granted. The front nine is a traditional tree-lined layout with some water where you can play from fairway to fairway. Not so on the back. The back nine is more of the desert design. The challenge is to keep the ball in play. A good long game also helps on the back. All-in-all, if you stay alert and stay out of touble, you will score.
Overall layout is good especially back nine.
Course was experiencing winter conditions with grass mostly dormant. Greens putted well and not too fast. Back nine is very good and challenging. Front nine is quirky given many tee boxes are either located near other tee boxes or "in range" of tee shots from other holes. The course was much more than I expected and would play it again.
conidering recent weather conditions greens were awesome
the sand traps were pristine and the fairways were well maintained
not very exciting
I was in S/E Az. for the weekend and ended up at the Douglas Course. Unfortunately they didn't winter seed the fairways. The tee boxes and greens were in ok condition. I think it is great that Douglas has a course for their local players. There are so many coursed in the Tucson area that I would play before playing here again.
There were a couple of water features on the course but were not designed to be much of a factor in play. That was kind of odd.
Like our own private course
We arrived early for our tee time, but there were no other players so we got off early and played all afternoon like it was our own course. No one was there to hurry us up and we had a great time. The course was not difficult and we got a good workout. The front nine is like an old municipal course with little difficulty and water that did not matter much. Green were fine and the bermuda grass gave us good rolls. The back nine appears to have been added to meet the needs of a subdivision and has several nice elevated greens and more water. It was a fun afternoon for $21.
