San Pedro Golf Course

About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7313 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

The Best
Best course with freeway billboards sewer ponds and dog pound and the San Pedro River
Fits my game to a tee
Best in Cochise county
Good restaurant too
Onion rings need some more time in the fryer
Should be crispy not limp
Burger was excellent
Wish I could play more often but it’s an hour drive
Never on Wednesday Shot gun start slows it down
Shotgun starts should be on weekends
Tournament format
They can’t get around fast enough
Don’t bother coming here.
This course is not worth $44. It’s not worth $24. Came here as a twosome. This course was empty, no one here other than a mini 5 group tournament that somehow has taken up the entire course. We have a group in front of us that wouldn’t let us through at all. The course condition is probably the worst in the Tucson area and I’m using worst lightly. Cart path didn’t help matters either as it rained for 2 days prior but I saw no puddles on the fairways. The ground was firm. Bunkers are overgrown grass. This place is awful. Anyone giving this place more than 1 star is clueless.
The course has a nice layout has 4 sets of tees and is challenging
The course layout is good but the conditions are not great the sand traps are kind of like grass dirt bunkers, greens and tee boxes are decent.
Fairwaydriver
First time at this course, well worth the drive!!!
Layout of the course is amazing, and with some nice risk vs reward shots.
great staff course getting better
greens were in good shape.. just a few more days of rain would benefit course. turn a few bunkers into grass bunkers. very nice staff
Cart girls were attentive
Did not eat at restaurant
Improving Course Conditions
Fairways and greens have improved greatly since my last visit. Tee boxes are average condition, but OK. Greens, although much better, had two variants of grass (?) which made speed a question plus some bumpy runs. Main disappointment with the course is the bunkers being in terrible condition. And good luck if you get in a bunker encountering the mud, weeds, hardpan, etc.
Bottom line...course is and has improved.
First time, last time
Course is in bad shape. Bunkers are completely ignored here. More weeds than sand. Tee boxes are kinda green in spots. Greens were fair condition. Layout was awesome. Somebody gave this course some thought...and hasn't thought of it since! $45 with cart...okay to work on your tee shots and putting. Anything not right in middle of fairway, after clearing the 80-100 yards of dirt/dried mud is not an option. Kick it to the middle and hit away. There is no rough on this course. Dirt and rock only, with some weeds thrown in for good measure. All the pictures on GN are either photoshopped or taken 25 years ago. There are no holes along the river. TOTAL bait-and-switch! Just ignore the smell as the course is built around the Benson waste water treatment plant. Staff in proshop and bar were very nice, bev cart came around 4 time during the round, that was just right. Out and back 18 holes, so no "turn". Pace was 4.5. Won't be stopping on the way through again.
Great to work on your tee shots and your putting touch.
Course is in really, really sad shape. The greens are green. Most of them have a little bit of weeds sprouting going on on the greens, doesn't really affect the roll. They are pretty quick. Of course being dry they roll that way already. Tee boxes are shaky at best. . Layout is great, variety and elevation change, especially back nine. Ignore the photos on Golf Now, that is called bait and switch. Besides being wrapped around Benson's waste water treatment plant...smell should be worth 3 strokes! If you get 6" off the fairway...nope, not gonna ruin a club on that noise. Bad!! More dirt/dried mud than grass. But played for $45 which inclded the cart. OK. No gps, wouldn't expect it for the price. Would not stop here again for the golf. Guy in Proshop, he was a really cordial guy, gave us a hole by hole playsheet. Gals working the restaurant/bar, Awesome. Had a beverage cart, saw her 4 times! Another positive. That is all.
