Disc GolfReviews
Most unique mountain golf experience in my 50 years of golfing!
Ok this review happened actually Labor Day weekend of 2017 so I had to fudge the date. 4 years late better than never. A few buddies and I were supposed to fly to Hancock and thenIronwood to ski Bohemia and Whitecap. Because of weather we couldn’t fly and lost our deposit here but Barb let my wife use the deposit $ for a night stay here and golf.
The place was sold after Dave L owned it for over 50 years. I can’t tell you what kind of condition it’s in now but was poor 4 years ago. As a skier it was cool climbing the 400 foot vertical and checking out the close to 50 year old Hall chairlifts.
The greens were burnt out, signage to the next tees was pitiful, tees and fairways awful but I had a blast. This was a year before Dave passed and he was still running around working.
New owners took over not long after we were there.
If you’re looking for something like Treetops in Gaylord Mi forget about it. We played one of the courses in Lutsen Minnesota the day before which was nice.
I’d like to ski here someday but it’s a haul from Grand Rapids Mi.
A stellar course rising
I have golfed this course for many years. The layout is spectacular. It shares the views of the Northwoods with a ski hill in the winter season. The color change in the fall offers breathtaking panoramas of Lake Superior. One can see eagles flying overhead, wild turkeys running amick, deer gambling, or bears scurrying through the woods. The new management is committed to upgrading this facility to it's full potential. The course is being sculpted to fit the natural beauty in line with the rugged terrain. This course offers just about every challenge a golfer could wish for. The hospitality of the staff reminds me of why I live here. You are treated as a friend, better than just a paying guest. I reccomend this course because of the beauty, challenges, and value. You will not be disappointed.
Ugh!
The course looks nothing like the brochure. Very poorly maintained. The greens are in horrible shape and the fairways are either burned out or weedy. It was $55 for my friend and $27.50 for me. (senior rate on Wednesday) Either maintain the course or close it. What a shame!
