A Hidden Gem in the Rockies
The Crowsnest Pass Golf Course has been on my top 10 list for years, and my friends and I make sure to play it every time we're in the area. This course has a long history, with various iterations spanning over a century, making it one of Alberta’s oldest. For years, we drove right by it on our way to B.C., never thinking much of what we saw from the highway—and boy, were we missing out.
In the mid-1990s, the original nine-hole course was expanded to 18, and that's when we finally decided to give it a try. We were completely blown away by the layout, condition, and the stunning views it offered. Any serious golfer would be remiss to pass up on this course; it's absolutely worth playing. The course underwent another redesign in the late 2010s after a local coal mine bought the surrounding land. They rebuilt the course with a mix of new and existing holes and added a spectacular new clubhouse for members.
The day we played, the course was in excellent condition, with lush tees, fairways, and greens. The greens were some of the best we've played on all year. For those who haven't been here before, this is a true mountain course. There isn't a single flat lie, and every hole is an uphill and downhill challenge that tests every part of your game. The greens are large, undulating, and well-bunkered. Many of the elevated tees offer breathtaking views of both the hole and the surrounding mountains. It’s one of those rare courses that's beautiful to look at from the tee box and just as stunning when you look back from the green.
The new clubhouse is spectacular, with great views of the 18th hole and the mountains. The pro shop is fully stocked, and the practice facility is second to none.
Would I recommend this course? Heck yeah! My only disappointment is that it used to be one of the less expensive courses in Southern Alberta. Now that everyone is discovering this Rocky Mountain jewel, the price is more in line with other courses in the area. At least you know you're getting your money's worth. Go play it!
Crowsnest Pass GC
Played under sunny skies and sweltering heat. To quote Matthew Broderick in the movie Biloxi Blues, "It's like Africa hot, Tarzan couldn't take this kinda hot."
Spend some time using the range, short game area and practice putting green prior to your round.
Wide, rolling fairways, forgiving rough, well placed bunkers, a few water hazards, numerous elevation changes, sculpted greens and towering pines that frame breathtaking views of the surrounding Rocky mountains all contribute to making your round memorable.
Crowsnest Pass GC provides a great setting for golf, it's up to you to bring your game.

Crowsnest Pass Golf Club
The Alberta Golf Tour's first 2 day "major" was held at this recently expanded Les Furber design, a golf course designer that has put his name on numerous mountain courses in Alberta and British Columbia.
The well equipped pro shop and a restaurant with a magnificent outside deck are all part of an expansive new clubhouse. A driving range, a short game practice area and a large practice putting green are available for those players looking to sharpen their skills.
Pay attention to the slope and rating on this course and play the tee box most suited to your handicap. There are five sets of tees on each hole. This decision willl have a strong bearing on on how enjoyable your game will be. This mountain course is walkable but be forewarned that there are some long walks in between holes.
There are numerous elevation changes that make for great views and add a little extra challenge to some of the holes. The fairways are fairly generous in width and if by chance you end up in the rough, the ball will more than likely be playable. There is absolutely no shortage of well placed bunkers scattered throughout the course and I became an expert at finding my share of them over two days of tournament golf. The greens are expansive and every one of them have some sneeky contours to make you secong guess your lines. The pace of the greens were consistently predictable during both days of play.
I found Crowsnest Pass to be a well maintained golf course. It has some challenging holes and the staff were accommodating. It all adds up to exceptional value and a great golf experience.

Gem in the mountains.
What a great place, brand new clubhouse with amazing views all around, especially from the patio, you can watch golfers putt out on #18. Highly recommend!
Spectacular new clubhouse and re designed course!
Amazing new clubhouse that just opened , hosts spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The new range is unmatched as you hit off towards Crowsnest mountain. Quite a hidden gem with friendly staff and great service. Definitely will be back to play more !
Beautiful Course, Challenging Staff
course was in excellent shape, hole design challenges your club selection and positioning. Greens played true and fairways simply keep you from the wildflowers that surround the holes. Significant rain did not impact course conditions.
The negative review is due to the staff, specifically the Marshall of this course. Disclaimer I golfed with my dad who infrequently golfs as a twosome. After being delayed 20 minutes (no issue there) my dads first swing shanked into the bush and the Marshall decided we were his narrative and rudely said in front of many golfers ‘you don’t golf much do ya’. We were then commented on at nearly every hole and watched. Our pace was consistent with the group ahead and we waited minimally and played at pace. After following the posted 90 degree rule to reach our ball on the opposite end we were told to no longer drive any grass (although groups within eyesight were doing so).
We kept pace with the other retirees playing weekday golf and finished the round in 4 hrs 10 minutes (including initial delay). Difficult to enjoy the views and the time with family when you have worry at each swing. Not inviting to the Amateur golfer, which is a shame.
Beautiful course
Having only 5 yrs of playing experience I think this is one the most affordable, & very challenging courses
The greens are very difficult, but really cool.
Will play any and every time I get in the area
4 Birdie day!
Beautiful scenery!! Great condition will be simply awesome upon renovation completions.
Spectacular Scenery at The Pass
The scenery is breathtaking - especially on the back 9. Parts of the course are under construction - nothing like 'off-roading' in a golf cart! Sure it will be even more spectacular when the renovations are complete. Have played this course numerous times - putting has always been extremely challenging.
Course is under construction on back nine so a few holes are shorten to par 3's. Staff should inform people of that when booking tee times and paying full price.
Mountain Course
The course was in excellent shape. Several holes are being demolished (including the existing clubhouse). Plans are to have a new clubhouse built in a different location as the coal mining operation will be using most of the land in that area. New holes are being designed further north of the existing course and may be ready in a couple of years. Play this old course with its beautiful mountain scenery.
A picturesque challenge
A challenging track in the wind for the final holes. Course is beautiful in the back mountains. Difficult greens can escalate score. Worth the time to play
All i can say is wow
Drove by it a hundred times without stopping...never again!
Always a good day golfing.
Course was a very great surprise. It was much better than what I had anticipated. Greens were extreemly hard to play if you hit ball above the pin. Will now have learned how to save a few strokes for next time I play. Much better and more beautiful course than what it looks like from the highway. Well worth playing.
Absolutely beautiful place to golf. Drove 2hours to play 18 holes. Booked my 18 the day before and was supposed to play with 2 ladies but got STUCK with 4 OLDER members, so a 5..SUM Not a good situation. Don’t play golf mad. So I didn’t and I left after the 2nd hole. NEVER to RETURN AGAIN !!!
