Sedgewick Golf Club

Located in central Alberta, the small town of Sedgewick is home to a quaint 9-hole golf course. Check in with the pro shop was cordial and I was informed that the tee box was open whenever I was ready.

This is a parkland style layout with a mix of tree lined fairways and wide-open areas that provided limited protection from the winds that today were blowing upwards of 30 mph. Tee boxes are sizable, flat and appear to be looked after. Fairways were running firm, were relatively wide and if your ball did run into the rough, there wasn’t much of a problem advancing your next shot.

With the strong afternoon winds, the greens which averaged 3800 to 4500 square feet were at times difficult targets to find. The greens rolled nicely, and pace was consistent throughout. I was pleasantly surprised to find the dozen or so bunkers on the course to be well looked after, with clean, sharp edges, well defined and the sand groomed nicely. Playing out of them was a treat. On holes 6 and 8 you will find two water hazards, which are there more for aesthetic purposes as neither one should come into play.

This Par 36, nine hole course plays to 3163 yards from the back tees. There aren't any real elevation changes on the course which makes for an easy walk for those so inclined. I enjoyed the extra challenge the course provided with today's winds.

The Sedgewick Golf Club is not an RCGA member so scores can't be used for handicap purposes.
