Legacy glad u were open
For December The course was in great condition. And glad they opened as a break in our winter weather.
Troves and staff are always great and course fun to play and always in good condition.
Fair, Fun and Interesting
I'm a big fan of mid-October road trips for golf in Iowa. The courses are usually still in great condition, but cooler weather results in some fantastic values. On such value is Legacy Golf Club.
Legacy Golf Club is a Jeff Brauer design that greets the golfer with generouse fairways, but enough trouble to make you think. The design moves well with the elevation changes throughout the property. Each hole seems to run in a different direction, which results in never getting comfortable with the wind. Finally, the greens have significant slope, but are kept at a reasonable pace to ensure playability.
Unfortunately, the course has received significant rain over the last 2 months resulting in very soft conditions. I would love to see Legacy when it is playing firm and fast! Given the amount of rain received, the course was in really good shape.
My favorite hole is the short, par 4 15th hole. At only 327 yards, it is driveable for the longest hitters, but it plays uphill adding some distance. The right side of the fairway drops off severely, putting some pressure on the tee shot. If you hit the fairway you're left with a wedge shot to a bowl shaped green framed nicely by a set of trees. Just a really fun hole.
If you're in the Des Moines area, I highly recommend Legacy Golf Club. I am excited to play it again!
Amazing!
Great course, great staff, wonderful experience. I would argue the best public course in Des Moines.
Go!!
Fantastic place!!! Great course, great condition, awesome staff!! Would recommend 100 percent.
Windy Soggy Sunday
Unfortunately when we played it had rained some the night before, what we didn't realize is how big the drainage problems were for this course so it was very soggy. Since the course was so soggy it made the fairways practically nonexistent on certain holes because of roped areas all over the place for standing water. The carts also had sensors in them so anytime it came remotely close to a roped area or somewhere they didn't want you to be it would shut down and we stayed in the rough or cart path. I was just very disappointed with the price and how soggy the course was from a mild rain and lack of drainage.
Loved it
Really enjoyed the rolling hills and layout of this course. Good bargain by playing in the afternoon. I love that the carts had GPS with speed control around the greens. Keeps the rookies from messing up the course for the rest of us.
