Decent, open course
The course doesn't have much in terms of trees or water, so good scoring is possible. A caddie is mandatory even if you have an electric cart. Caddie was helpful with wind, distances and putting line but had very limited English.
The course is quite open, so you're not punished much if you miss the fairway. The views are nice and some elevation changes to make the course interesting.
I recommend playing the course on a Monday or Tuesday when the price is 60USD. The prices doubles to 120USD Wednesday to Friday and 140USD on the weekend. You can book tee times online, however the reservation page is only in Spanish. Surprising considering most of the site has the option of Spanish or English writing.
A true gem
Had the pleasure of playing in the 2015 Copa San Miguel at Ventanas. A wonderful and challenging golf couse, and that is coming from a club professional in Canada. Some subtle elevation change throughout but easily walkable, especially with their fine caddies to lug the bag.The club owner Jose Antonio, is a great host and a fine player as well.
The course opens with a friendly par 5 and gradually becomes more difficult. The final 6 holes will challenge any golfer. A par par finish is very well done.
I hope to return again soon.
Hey David,
Ventanas does have electric carts, but you still need a caddie as I recall...caddies are reasonable price.
Only other course I heard of nearby is Malaquin (?), but I believe it was private.
I going back to Ventana myself at end of February for 2017 Copa.....go Canada go!
Hi Kevin, I'll be going to San Miguel next month and plan to play this course. You mentionned caddies in your review. Are they mandatory or are electric carts also available? Any other public courses in the area you recommend?
Thanks
