Sand Greens? You bet!
Something different for the golf fanatic. Tiny greens and narrow, tree-lined fairways lead to the sand greens which add a new element to an old game.
$7 for a daily pass allows players to test their skills against the par 4, 371-yard fifth hole, which has out of bounds along the south side of the fairway and a green bordered by a pond and guarded by two giant cottonwood trees. Par here is a good score.
Riverside is open to the public and can be played year-round, weather permitting. No tee times are required, but insect repellent is recommended during the summer months.
Sand Greens experience
Riverside has been in existence since World War II, and mixes traditional golf with the experience of playing on sand greens. The round patches of sand are small, making for difficult targets.
Golfers passing through Nebraska on highway 30 should make a visit to Riverside part of their bucket list. For $7, play all day on a course which is an easy walk for the average player.
Greens fees are collected on the honor system at the rustic clubhouse, and Riverside is open to the public year round, weather permitting.
