Too expensive
It's now $85 to play this mediocre at best muni.I recommend playing at Rio Grande in Southfork instead. It's a little more but the course is a resort style course and definitely worth the money. The staff andpro shop are also friendly and accommodating, unlike Cattails.
Enjoyed the Course
The course was in good shape for this time of the year. The greens had not come in yet, but they were plenty fast and difficult to hold. I did think that the green fees with a cart were a bit high. The course is pretty flat and walkable if you are acclimated.
I would play it again.
Excellent winter round
Cattails GC is a challenging, fun course that I enjoy playing whenever in the area; although it is not a very long course, it requires strategy and thought in order to score well; Jon Atencio is very friendly and accommodating, making each guest feel welcomed and appreciated; I would recommend this course to everyone who enjoys golf either seriously or recreationally.
Great course with awesome promise
Cattails GC is a challenging course that requires strategic play to navigate the fairways tucked away in the thick cottonwood trees; whenever in the San Luis Valley, I make it a point to play at least one round because of the challenges and technic required while enjoying the beautiful surroundings; the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, making you feel like regular players; the only issue was that the high water conditions from a wet, snow filled winter and rainy spring had the course restricted due to the water floor rising and flooding many areas; only the back nine holes were available for play with some adjustments, but the rounds (I played three 9-hole rounds) were very fun and will bring me back when in the area again.
This is a course that will challenge your skill and provide a relaxing, peaceful experience that will invite you back.
Meh...
It's really the only option in Alamosa...Glad I had a coupon for a fat discount and didn't pay full price. Lots of pebbles after they treated the greens for fall. Made for bad putting conditions and too many leaves on the course. Hard to find well struck shots. A one time visit for me.
heads up, no food or beverage
Restaurant is closed with an unknown date to open. So no beverages or food. A heads up would have been nice, so this is yours. Love the course
Decent muni course.
Course was in average condition. Lots of trees, many doglegs, some water; it all adds up to a challenge if you want to bomb it and cut the doglegs. If you play point to point you can stay out of trouble. The par 3's are the toughest holes since there are few bailouts. A very good value if you can find a "hot rate" on GolfNow. Didn't eat at the course but the town of Alamosa has some nice cafes and a great brewpub. Try the Hatch chili beer.
