some very interesting holes front nine has the most unique holes the back nine was obviously added later and is challenging but predictable. All in all a very nice course out in the country

Greens were great, the rest of the course needed some upkeep.

This course is tricky, but I can see myself making the hour drive regularly to try to conquer it. Great staff and amenities. The course was in shockingly good condition for it being out of season.

We played Red Oak Country Club on 3/17/2025. It was obviously winter conditions but overall the course was in good shape. The greens were excellent for winter greens - it is obvious that the club takes care of them through the winter.

We play here about 2-3 times per year and always enjoy it.

Fun course to play, seldom too busy to jump right on. Old 9 is a traditional layout, tree-lined fairways, back and forth layout. New 9 (1987) is a totally different layout, with large undulating greens and doglegs. On average, 2-4 different tee blocks provide for a fun test for all genders and abilities.

Red Oak Iowa is a great place to play golf. Very affordable, fun challenging course, great friendly staff.

Great course tucked into SW Iowa. Challenging track with large greens and tree lined fairways. Shot makers course where driver is not always best from the tee. Old course beauty and a fun place to play!

This is a beautiful 18 hole course in a smaller community with a nice clubhouse and friendly staff. I never have trouble securing a tee time and enjoyed a drink at the bar and a great steak dinner at The Oaks Restaurant both in the quant clubhouse.

An unexpected delight for those from outside the community!

Fun course layout with multiple elevation changes, doglegs and large greens. The club has worked hard to improve course conditions and it is paying huge dividends. My favorite course to play in southwest Iowa.

This event started on the past Friday when I called to setup a tee time. I was told there was a women’s league that would be there, but my preference of a 10:30 tee time would be fine. A 30 mile drive to the course and was met by the manager who told me I would not be able to tee off due to the course basically being closed due to the league. She did make provisions to allow me to have access to the driving range for practice. After hitting a bucket, I went to the clubhouse and was told the league should be cleared of the first nine and I could tee off. Good or so I thought. At hole #4, a female golfer drives up to me and starts to call me rude and other delightful things because I am in front of her group. Mind you I checked in with the clubhouse prior and had permission to go. I informed her of the situation and she said I wasn’t allowed to be there. I then asked if she was the course Ranger, she said no. Words were exchanged and at that point I was going back to the clubhouse to get this straightened out. As it turns out I got a refund and an apology for the inconvenience caused. But let’s get real here. When I teed off…. NO ONE was behind me. This course needs a ranger badly. The course of play was very slow and I was a paying customer. This could have been prevented by just closing the course for the league. Will I come back? Absolutely not. The course maybe one of the premier in SW Iowa, but the clientele leaves much to be desired. The attitude and demeanor of the person that approached me was not good. And as a veteran, I don’t take that from anyone Period. This course if selected needs to be policed better and communicated with staff better. I will not recommend anyone to play here.

It started with the pro being very welcoming and gave us good directions as this was our time. Courses a good layout.n the back nine was even better off a design. Great time n worth the drive from Omaha to play.

The front 9 was horrible. Trees everywhere bad tee boxes. Didnt like it much at all. Back 9 was great. Loved it. Layout is better. Some really fun nice holes. Not worth driving an hour to pay $30-$40. Should be cheaper. Probably wont go again.

Great course for locals ... probably not a destination course never going to hos a US open. But great for a RedOak Open.. Hey if your in the area stop by and play. You certainly wont regret it.

Red Oak is about an hour southeast of Omaha. I have played nearly every quality course in the area, but not here. I booked our round at a substantial discount, but had no idea what to expect. I was neither disappointed nor thrilled with Red Oak. It was pretty standardfare for a small town track with a limited budget. I have a hunch that it was originally a nine-hole facility because the back nine is certainly more imaginative than the ho-hum front nine. Plus, it appears there are some very nice, recently built residences lining the holes on that side. The greens, especially the ones on the back nine, were very nice. They rolled true, and had surprising character, which made them challenging. Getting to the green was the hard part, though. Yardage markers are limited, which makes club selection tough. There is a too much crabgrass in the fairways, which prevents clean lies sometimes. There had been a little rain in the area recently, but the course should not have been so wet. This made it play much longer since there was essentially no roll out. The biggest surprise was the thickness of the rough. It was deep, wet, and inconsistent. We found it often, unfortunately, and spent an inordinate amount of time searching for balls in it since any venture in sank out sight immediately. Getting out required a great deal of effort. Any day on the golf course is a good one, but a return trip to Red Oak is unlikely, however, unless there are substantial upgrades in maintenance and condition. If you want seclusion, and are not particular about high quality, Red Oak is okay. You can find very reasonable prices seven days a week without much difficulty.
