Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Kansas
Great Course and people
The course is really nice and everyone is pretty laid back. It's a championship course thats fun and fair for all golfers. Greens were in great shape too. The tall grass is mown down now which makes it much more enjoyable and faster to play not looking for balls all day.
Great Course and people
This is the best course in Western Kansas hands down. They have lush green grass everywhere so if you miss a green you have a decent lie instead of dirt like at most courses in the area and no chance to chip or pitch it close. Here you have great lies almost everywhere. If only they'd permanently get rid of the buffalo grass, like they did in the spring but it's back now, surrounding most fairways and plant a few more trees. Actually they have enough tree's that they don't need the tall grass, maybe add a few fairway bunkers. Also as the rules of golf have changed to 2 minutes to find a ball, you just as well re-tee your ball because it'll take you 20 min. to find a ball in that mess if you do. They make this stuff to kill grass called mulch. Buffalo grass is like a disease you can't shake in Western Kansas. They use the native grass because it's there already and cheaper to use than reseeding. With 20-30 mile an hour wind being normal ur gonna hit the tall stuff at least once. That's all it takes to ruin a good day on the course is that BS grass. Newsflash, the buffaloes ain't coming back. Please mow that mess down. It's really unfair and unnecessarily slows play down and really, really ruins a good day with one bad shot. No chance to recover from the buffalo grass. That being said this is still a good course that could be great with the removal of the buffalo grass and addition of dunes and fairway bunkers.
Course was in great condition; well groomed and greens were quick. Challenging course that makes you pay if you hit it in the rough. Staff was very helpful and pace of play was just right. Will definitely be back when we're here again.
Was one of best courses ever for the cost. I would love to play again and probably will. Throw in the community and its history, is a great combination. Loved it. John K.
Good course, very long
We used the Deal of The Day and were sandwiched between 2 tournaments. Not our ideal playing conditions. Course is nice, good grass and well maintained. Greens were exceptionally fast, but lots of rain in the last week. We had booked a tee time earlier in our visit and we were notified an hour before tee time that an outing was conflicting with our tee time. So, if you are booking thru a discounted sire, hoghly recommend you call.
Mariah Hills has a wonderful app for scoring and GPS to help guide you through the course with helpful yardage to the pin. Very friendly staff and a nice restaurant above the pro shop that has an incredible view of the course. There's also a great driving range just to the south of the course.
