Bali Hai Golf Club: A tropical paradise near the Las Vegas strip

LAS VEGAS -- A simple taxi ride from the Strip transports golfers to the South Pacific. Bali Hai Golf Club, one of two excellent themed courses owned by Walters Golf, has all the sand, water and palm trees of an exotic tropical island.

Bali Hai is one of the premier Las Vegas golf experiences, mixing great service with wonderful amenities and a well conditioned, scenic course that's fun to play.

The backdrop alternates between faraway mountains and the golden towers of the Delano Las Vegas and Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino and the Luxor pyramid.

For the ultimate round, hire a caddie, either a grizzled veteran or a gorgeous female ParMate.

The par-71 Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley design opened in 2000. Wide fairways, gentle elevation changes and five gorgeous par 3s make Bali Hai interesting and enjoyable for all. Water comes into play on the most challenging holes. A creek meandering up the right side of the par-4 third hole and a pond at the potentially drivable fourth hole are perfectly placed in harm's way. Ponds guard the par-3 ninth hole and island green at no. 16 near the clubhouse. No. 18, one of the most intimidating holes in Las Vegas, bends left around a grove of palm trees to reveal a daunting approach shot over water and sand.

The food and drink at the Cili Restaurant inside the clubhouse live up to Sin City's reputation as a foodie's dream.
