KESWICK, Va. -- Historic Keswick Hall, home to Keswick Golf Club, has a brand new golf course: Full Cry, designed by Pete Dye and opened in 2014.

The course was built atop the old Keswick Course, an Arnold Palmer design dating back to the 1990s. While the new course is longer from the championship tees at over 7,100 yards, the course was built with the intention of being easier for amateur golfers. The previous course featured a lot of elevated greens and forced carries. This effort, meanwhile, allows for much more bump-and-run opportunities and is far less penal in nature.

Located near Charlottesville and Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, the course is part of Keswick Club, a private club with a strong membership. But guests of the on-site Keswick Hall, a lavish 48-room mansion, have full playing and club privileges.

Brandon Tucker is the Sr. Managing Editor for GolfPass and was the founding editor of Golf Advisor in 2014, he was the managing editor for Golf Channel Digital's Courses & Travel. To date, his golf travels have taken him to over two dozen countries and nearly 600 golf courses worldwide. While he's played some of the most prestigious courses in the world, Tucker's favorite way to play the game is on a great muni in under three hours.
