Hawk's View Golf Club in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin paints a pretty picture

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. -- One of the favorite daily-fee facilities in the Lake Geneva area, Hawk's View Golf Club not only offers a well conditioned and scenic 18-hole championship course, but an 18-hole short course as well.

The regulation course is a 7,074-yard par-72 layout called Como Crossings, named after Como Creek, which meanders throughout the course. The Craig Shiner-designed layout is located on the site of former ski hill Mt. Fuji, providing dramatic elevation changes on several holes, including a couple of dramatic par 3s.

Barn Hollow is the facility's family-friendly golf course, and a little more affordable (although Hawk's View offers prices that cover both courses). The 2,708-yard, par-3 golf course is also well conditioned with plenty of water hazards, bunkers and undulating greens.

Considered one of the toughest golf courses in the Midwest, The Brute at Grand Geneva Resort is arguably one of the prettiest as well with elevated tees, large greens, 68 bunkers and impeccable playing conditions. The course, which was designed by Robert Bruce Harris, plays to nearly 7,100 yards from the tips but its most predominant feature might be the large greens, which average more than 8,000 square feet with deceiving slopes.

Lake Geneva -- a small lakeside town in southern Wisconsin -- has always been "Chicago's playground." Chicagoans can hop in the car and within two hours be fishing or boating on one of the region's three major lakes or teeing it up on a scenic resort golf course kissing their shores. With top-notch golf -- Grand Geneva Resort & Spa and Geneva National, to name two -- resorts and restaurants, it's easy to see why Lake Geneva is a popular destination.
