Old Macdonald Golf Links at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon: A tribute to C.B.

BANDON, Ore. -- Old Macdonald Golf Links is the fourth course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

Opened in 2010, Old Macdonald is a tribute to American golf course architect C.B. Macdonald, founder of the U.S. Golf Association. Designed by Tom Doak and Jim Urbina, the course features the principles that Macdonald incorporated into his designs, including vast greens and fierce bunkers. There are several sets of tees, ranging from nearly 7,000 yards from the back down to less than 4,300 yards, that can challenge all golfers.

Born and raised in the former Soviet Union, photographer Oleg Volovik moved to the United States in 1992 and now lives with his wife and two children in Los Angeles. He joined the TravelGolf editorial team in 2010. Originally graduated with a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering he continued to dedicate his time and energy to his passion for visual arts and photography. Oleg has extensive experience in fine arts, fashion, event, architecture and journalistic photography. His work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Moscow, where he also taught a master class, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard, in April 2007. He may be a novice golfer, but Oleg always wears a white leather glove during photo sessions. "Golf photography is my own 'game' with the beauty of nature and human creativity.

The Pacific Dunes course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort has been called the best golf course in America. While that fact may be debatable, there's little debate that the links land on which Pacific Dunes was built is among the best in the U.S. and that Tom Doak created a links masterpiece.

It can't be easy being Bandon Trails, one of four outstanding golf courses at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. All four are on Golfweek's list of best resort courses for 2012, but Bandon Trails pulls up the rear -- at No. 11. Still, the Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw design more than holds its own with its sister courses.
