Plantation Course at Sea Island Resort in Georgia gears up to participate in the PGA Tour's RSM Classic

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- The Plantation Course at Sea Island Resort will make its PGA Tour debut during the 2015 RSM Classic. While the Seaside Course remains the headliner, Plantation enters the rotation to help a full field finish on time Thursday and Friday before the cut is made.

The Plantation dates to 1928, designed by Walter Travis. An extensive renovation by Rees Jones in 1998 revised the routing to make room for The Lodge.

The pros should have little trouble avoiding the ponds and tidal creeks that plague amateurs on this parkland-by-the-sea. The 10th fairway wanders along the Saint Simons Sound before turning inland. It's a scenic introduction to a solid back nine that finishes at a risk-reward par 5.

Ranked by Golf Magazine among the top 10 public golf courses in Georgia, the Plantation Course uses the comfy men's locker room that serves food and drink inside The Lodge and the practice facilities of the Golf Performance Center along the water to deliver a special experience.

The only Golf Advisor review from 2014 gave Plantation five stars, calling it a "GREAT COURSE!!!" The user wrote: "(The course) can be very penal if you mishit the ball. Fairways don't have a lot of rough, so wayward shots will get wet."
