FOREST CITY, Pa. -- Laid out over what used to be a dairy farm, Panorama Golf Course opened in 1964 and has been solid and very affordable public play in the Scranton, Pa. area ever since.

Owner Paul and Marie Vauter not only converted the farm into a golf course but the dairy barn into a clubhouse, which has become a popular eating spot in the area as well. Designed by PGA Professionals Bill Griffiths and Paul Kern, the course can stretch to 7,256 yards, yet its open greens and multiple tees is playable by every level of players, including juniors, who can often play for free when accompanied by a paying adult in the summer.

Perhaps the most unusual aspect of the design is that there are only two par 3s on the course and two par 5s. Panorama Golf Course's back nine has eight par 4s, but the variety of holes makes it anything but boring. Another strength is the views of the Endless Mountains from every hole, which justifies the name.
