CLIO, Calif. -- Opened in 1996, Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club in Plumas County, Calif. is a remote course about an hour's drive from Reno and Lake Tahoe, set on nearly 1,000 acres that once served as a cattle ranch.

Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club was designed by Dick Bailey, who has delivered a very player-friendly course that is loads of fun to play and even prettier to look at. Set within the Mohawk Valley, the course's meadow holes play around native grasses and wildflowers, while the forested holes wind through tall pines, cedars, firs and aspens. Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club features a handful of short par 4s on the front nine, culminating with a 310-yard ninth hole that is a too-good-to-be-true look at driving the green from the tee.

Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club's back nine gets a little longer, with no par 4s less than 415 yards from the championship tees, but has two reachable par 5s. A par 71, Whitehawk Ranch plays just under 7,000 yards from the championship tees.

Located near Graeagle in Clio and part of a small residential community, facilities at Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club include a small pro shop and grill, but very good driving range and short-game area.
