This course has some really good holes.
Greens were great, fairways were good except for a few areas, tee boxes need some work, cart paths are poor and unmarked. The staff were outstanding. Helpful, friendly, cannot find any better.
this course really looks good
the changes they've made are really nice very nice condition
Course Has Improved
The conditioninjg of the course is the best it has been for at least 7 years. It has been gradually improving over the past 2 years and is now in good condition. If you like a challenging layout away from residential developments this is a good course to play
Great Course
This course closed for a bit but the staff is getting in shape and it is looking great. The staff is one of the best you will ever see and you will have a great time playing this course.
Surprisingly Good Conditions
When I played here once each of the last 2 years, it was fun, and basically worth the drive. It's a great layout and very scenic and peaceful. But the conditions were pretty sketchy. Currently, however, the course is in largely fantastic shape.
The greens are super receptive and putt excellently. There were bad areas on a couple of greens, but out of the way, and by and large the greens were outstanding. There were some pocks here and there, but the bent grass repairs beautifully.
There are some bare areas, and a couple of fairways that have a lot of dirt patches, but for the most part the fairways are lush, no joke. Even the dirt patch fairways have a fair amount of nice grass.
I played out of some very nice sand and most of it looked great, but there were some bunkers that were full of water or otherwise rustic, but none as bad as two years ago when all of them were unkempt dirt pits.
I mentioned to Rudy that our cart seemed new. He said that they got all new carts just last week. The cart paths seemed a lot less dusty to me also. And the weather was perfect. Rudy sends you out with a cart-mounted ice chest with Dasani water on board. Range balls are included; unwashed balls, but good surface to hit off of.
Overall, Apache Stronghold is now definitely worth the drive.
Getting better all the time
I have played Apache Stronghold since it was first opened. I love the lay-out.
For several years in the resent past, it was in vary poor shape and condition. But two years ago I noticed a move to improve the course. This last Sunday playing it showed me how much improvement can happen when properly directed. It is in vary good shape, and is close to being in Excellent shape. I expect to see that soon. I will play this course again in the next month as I am excited to see the remarkable improvements each time.
Apache Stronghold - Awesome
This is one of my top 5 favorite golf courses in Southern Arizona. Picturesque! Greens were in excellent shape except for the ball marks not repaired by other golfers. Fairways are big enough for the average golfer to hit. Love the overall condition, a lot of energy and money is being put into the facility. Well worth the drive and money spent!
Amazing condition!
This course is a hidden treasure. It's challenging but not so much that it isn't fun to play.
Best bang for the buck.
Course was in great shape despite heavy rains and greens having been punched and sanded earlier in the week. Another few days and course will be perfect. Great rates, no waiting, free range balls and bottled water.
Apache Stronghold
Course has a great layout. A lot of maintenance being done to areas impacted by erosion. Greens are in excellent condition, fairways better than average but a number of tee boxes could use a make-over.
great Lay out
The greens are in great condition and they are working hard to fix all the fairways. Some of the tee boxes could you some work. This is a great layout and challenging. Afterwards the Casino is on your way out.
the view
course was in good shape. they are still working on it for the winter season but still In great shape. greens were in good shape with very few bare spots. worth the trip for the great views.
Worth the drive.
This was the 4th time I have played Apache Stonghold in the last 4 months and I enjoy it more every time I play it. Course was in very good shape with the summer burmuda. There are still a couple of holes where the fairways have some bare spots but course continues to improve. Greens were fast and smooth. Staff are always friendly. I arrived about 1 hour before my tee time and was told the tee was mine when ever I was ready. It is 75 mile drive one way but still worth it. No matter what time of day you play you will have the place to yourself.
Say hi to Rudy
This course is a bit of a work in progress. The good news is that the tee boxes and greens are in incredible shape. It's clear that this course is spending money where it counts, on the course itself. The layout is amazing. With incredible mountain views, wildlife, and elevated tee boxes. Although this course lacks some amenities, they make up for it with the friendliest and most welcoming staff I have ever met. In the hundreds of rounds golf I've played in my life, these guys and gals were hands down some of the nicest people I've ever met. I truly believe that they want you to enjoy yourself no matter what your handicap might be. Take a few minutes to talk to the starter Rudy. He will get you in the right frame of mind for a great round.
Improvement
This course is getting better. Fairways and greens are looking better as the grass continues to grow. Major improvement from previous years (patchy fairways & greens). The course is worth your money and the drive if you're looking for a challenging layout. Greens are rolling nice and the overall design of the course is improving with the adjustments and cleaning up they did. I'd recommend it to my friends and anyone who golfs.
Most Improved
Played this course for the first time for a while. Stopped playing about eight years ago when the conditions got so bad. They have really been improving on the course bunkers were in good condition, greens were fantastic. Fairways were still a little bare in spots but you can see they are making an effort. All the paths are gravel so your bag will get a little dusty. Staff is great and had the course almost to myself this day so completed my round quickly and ate lunch at the casino.
Rudy ,the man with the water.
We were greeted by the starter Rudy, he is a caricature of fun.
He packed our cart with bottles of water and ice, explained the course layout. At the turn he was once again ready to see to our needs. He is very friendly and really enjoys what he dose.
We played on the 4th of July, although there are a few holes that are under repair(really bad shape), a majority of the course is well maintained. The course is very challenging very long par 5s. The weather was great,94 vs 107 in Phoenix.
Go play it
Great value and some of the mountain views are spectacular.
Great shape, fun course to play
Excellent value with golfnow special fee, surrounding desert is neath takingly beautiful.
Impressed!
This was my first time playing here. I usually play ocotillo or gold canyon, however, this course was very impressive. Super long, greens and fairways were in great condition, pace of play was fast (Monday). Definitely will play again.
Great track
I love this place. It's out behind the Apache Gold Casino. They meet you at your car like you're the only golfer there, which you sometimes are! Extremely friendly. Rudy, the starter, is a wonderful character. It's a great golf course in need of further repair, but it has been improving steadily over the last couple years. The greens are now running true, a little slow, perhaps, but bare patches are far fewer than before. The weather is quite a bit cooler than Phoenix, so don't be afraid of late tee-times. Well worth the drive. Remember, Tom Doak also designed Bandon Dunes. There are some very memorable holes here. Bring your GPS, the sprinkler heads are not all marked.
