Long drive from Phoenix but worth it
Very pleased with the conditions of the golf course and the layout. I had heard from other golfers that the course was kind a rough around the edges but you could see they were making an effort to improve overall conditions. I will definitely drive the 75 miles from Mesa to play this course again. The greens are large and undulating and fast. It was fun and challenging. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
Needs attention
Cart GPS has correct holes, but course has been re-routed so the tees start at the back. Dormant grass has been painted to demarcate the fairways. Greens are smooth, fast, and have breaks that are large but easily read by the skilled player. Cart paths and the junk around the course need to be addressed. Casino personnel are hostile.
Amazing golf course in nowhereville
Apache Stronghold is a great golf course. It's an amazing layout, and a good test of golf. It's too bad that it is in the middle of nowhere because it has so much potential. The course was in terrible shape other than the greens. The greens were absolutely perfect and rolled 12 on the stimp. The value for the golf was second to none, the rate we paid was laughably cheap, and we had the whole course to ourselves. Over all it was a great experience and I will be back; just hope the fairways are in better shape next time.
Great round of golf on a chilly day
Was advised by a course employee that GolfNow was the way to go to play this course. Got a great deal for a threesome and we enjoyed clear but very cool skies and very little wind. Greens were mostly fast, pins were mostly fair, fairways were painted and mostly rolling, but didn't affect our shots too much. One intermediate level golfer and two who love the game but only play a few times per year. Staff was great, lunch subs were pretty good. Golf GPS was great. First time we had used this. We will be back.
worth the drive
This is a unique course with a big personality. I played Christmas day so I had the course to myself. The GPS on the carts is essential as green to tee is not well marked. Fairways were in good condition for the time of year. Greens putted well.
A Great Golf Course
My husband and I love golfing at the Apache Stronghold in Globe, AZ. We were there twice this week.
Great staff
Worth the trip, I will go back. The staff are great and do everything to make you feel welcome.
conditions of the course
Wonderful layout greens were excellent. Painted green fairways were kinda bush league. Need more golf people involved. If you want to be a resort the course needs to be way better manicured.
scenic golf
The golf course was in better shape than I expected, just a bit soggy from the recent heavy rain . I would hesitate to attempt to walk this course due to the sometimes long distances between tees and the nature of the course being very hilly in places. The layout of the course is very compelling and quite challenging from the back tees. Greens are generous in size and very challenging to putt given the slope and undulations. I love the layout and design but beware of the incorrectly numbered tee markers ie. hole marker #10 is actually hole #1.
Clean very clean
The greens, water readily available through out the 18 holes. Awesome views.
Course is nearing the end of the season
Due to the high altitude, it does get cold up at the course. Naturally it is slowing down due nearing the end of the season. It is a challenging course, but I have played it many times before when the conditions were better.l
Rough but good value
Dusty and windy.A lot of split fairways. Not in great shape but you get what you pay for.Greens were very fast and true.Elevated tees made for some interesting drives.GPS on the carts was very helpful for me as it was my first time here.
Welcome Back
Haven't played here in years. Last time I played here i told the staff they would be better off closing the club down. It was in horrible shape. The greens today were outstanding and the fairways are almost back to pre 2007 condition. It is not all the way back but getting there. Outstanding layout, no homes and no other hole visible from the one your playing. Worth the drive, great to see it coming back. I look forward to playing again.
Great Challenge
Excellent course - Great return for the cost -
Scenic - Must be able to use the entire range of clubs in order to score
Best customer service
They were more than curdious going out of their way. The fairways need help a long with sand traps and green surroundings. The course has a really awesome feel to it and could be a really amazing course if the effort and time were put into it. The greens were also amazing. The casino was horrible however along with the hotel but I wasn't expecting anything more than that. Overall had a great day golfing.
Gem in the High Desert
This course was in decent shape for this time of year. The layout is fantastic ! The holes are designed into the natural beauty of the land, no contrived moving of earth to create features.
Course was not over seeded but fairways were in great shape. The greens are fabulous !
If you're looking for resort services like bag boys, cart service, and expensive green fees, this isn't the course for you.
If you want to experience an outstanding tract, challenging golf, and great greens in the beauty of the AZ high desert then this is the place.
will play again
Greens great, fairways good except a few spots .We could see a beautiful course was here at one time. Still worth the drive from mesa. gps in carts was great , helped to see where to try and hit ball.
great day
been going to apache gold for 5 years. unbelievable since the beginning. course in good shape, making repairs where they need to. new golf carts- do not go off the path - cart shuts down. would recommend
upgrades on golf carts
The fairway is coming back, they paid alot of attention to the bare spots, good job guys, installed GPS monitor and electronic score card , GPS helped alot wen it came to 150 yards and closer, keep up the work
Would Play Again
Was very surprised at the how good the course was and for the value, it was great. The drive is worth it, very beautiful drive and the veiws are amazing. The course needs a few direction signs on the course but, other than that. It is worth the price and the drive. Would recommend it to everyone. It was not like what I read and is not disappointing.
