Tough conditions
Save your money, This is a good course when conditions are good. They are not. Very dry, minimal grass. Sanded greens are not consistent speeds. Too much money for the conditions.
Good Course But Needs Water And Care
Tee Boxes and Greens were much better then Fairways. Lots of scorched fairways with long stretches of no green grass. Course needs water and better care to bring it up to par. Front nine is flat, longer and has 3 doglegs. Back nine has many elevated tees and greens and is more challenging. The $79 fee is too high for what is offered. Better rates and conditions can be found at Starfire, Orange Tree and Talking Stick.
Great course and great food.
Absolutely love the scenery in this course it’s always in good shape in the food is the best golf course food around I love it
Beautiful course!
I’ve been wanting to play this course for a long time and was finally able to find a reasonable rate here on Golf Now. Challenging greens and very difficult bunkers on Links course which is the only one I would want to play.! Pro shop is fully stocked with shirts, hats and other swag!
Great for an Out-of-Towner
I think some of the reviews about conditions were overblown, or made by locals with higher standards for a course that they're regulars at. Yes, there are some dead patches in fairways, and the greens can roll inconsistent , but overall I enjoyed the layout and scenery of the Links course. Staff was friendly and helpful, overall layout was open with some challenging holes, and pace of play was fine. A few tee boxes were a little tough to get the tee deep enough in the ground, but a little elbow grease was enough to get it through the dirt/clay. Greens probably need some work, some were dry and fast while others were soft and slower.
Started as a single and got paired with a duo, finished in 4.25hrs (7:45 tee) but would've been faster if not for the Club Pro in front of my 3some who opted to play 2-3 balls for the front 9.
Coming from Orlando, FL I can say there aren't too many local courses that offer the combination of well kept, challenging, and picture-esque for the same $80ish price point. Would love to play here again if I find myself in Phoenix again in the future. If you're from out of town and can grab a tee time before 8am on a weekday then I'd say this is the perfect spot if you only plan on playing 1 round in Phoenix.
My round at Estates course
I first played this course in 1968. I always liked it. The course is not that difficult but it has Donald Ross style greens and the greens are fast. The chipping is difficult for me but I like the challenge.
Below Biltmore standard
For supposedly a really nice course, the fairways were terrible. Basically, I had no lie in a fair way that had a reasonable amount of grass under it either it was dirt or extremely thin under developed grass. It felt like playing at a cheap public course.
Course is wide open but holes are next to each other
Course will be set in mid July or August for sure get the price for what it is right now
Big Dissapointment
OK here is the good;
The New Clubhouse & adjoining restaurant is first class. Beautiful facility that looks out over the course. Staff was friendly.
The bad; IMO the decision to compress 18 modern golf holes into what was the old Adobe course was a huge mistake. Why not make a great nine hole course (27 hole resort facility) instead of shoehorning in 18 holes. Because of this (and other reasons), playing here is a not enjoyable & downright stressful - here is why:
• Tabletop greens that are rock hard & don't hold shots.
• Tiny tee boxes that are so hard you Need a jackhammer to get tee in ground
• holes are so close together - smallest mishit end’s up in adjacent fairway. Causing slow play
• Slow Play
• Areas of course where several tee boxes are close together causing confusion and safety concerns
• Dangerous – almost got hit by errant shots (twice).
• They charge over $100 to play here in the summer (peak time) – really?
• For local golfers – there are soooo many better choices out there – don’t waste your time or $$
Course status not provided
I’ve played the Links course many times and looked forward to this round. Unfortunately, the fairways had been punched and had a lot of bare spots. Additionally, the greens had a layer of sand the made putting a challenge. Had GolfNow advertised the actual course condition I would have played the Estates course instead.
Links
The Links course has more water hazards and slope than the Estates course. Beautiful views and the course is well maintained.
Needs some work!
Many of the ball washers had no towels so that is useless...one of the greens was patched with sodded areas....tee boxes pretty beat up.....overall I would give the course a 5/10.....would not take much to get it up to snuff but it looks like they are putting all the cash into the redone Estates course..
